Hi all,

I am using MediaPortal 1.0.2 and all was working flawlessly until recently.

My HTPC doesnt have anything installed on it other than Media Portal, and I have made no changes to it.

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate (final) and for months it has worked flawlessly when playing MKV and XVID files. Today, however it has stopped making the 'menu noises' when navigating about - and it also refuses to play the audio on XVID files - the amp doesnt seem to be getting the signal.

DTS / DD5.1 is fine though and the amp changes correctly.

Playing the XVID in WMP or VLC on the HTPC works fine, so the correct codecs are installed...

Help! PS - I am using SPDIF.

Hi!
This is a very common problem when using SPDIF/OPTICAL output

First, check if your default audio device (in control panel, audio) is Digital audio output SPDIF or OPTICAL (depend of which are you using).

IE: Control Panel - > Sound -> Playback: go to: Realtek Digital Ouput Optical (or just ouput if using SPDIF RCA cable) and click right button, set as default playback device. (this is the most important thing)

Now I assume you are using AC3Filter right? (if not WRONG!, USE IT God Damnit! :p hehe ) Go to AC3 Filter Config.

Check Use SPDIF
in output format choose whatever you have (if you have a 5.1 setup, choose that).
in SPIDF tab check all in SPDIF Passthrough and in SPDIF Options check use AC3 Encoder.

Save, exit.

Now in mediaportal configuration:
Videos -> Video Player.
-- MPEG/AC3 audio decoder AC3 Filter
-- Audio Renderer: Realtek Digital Ouput Optical (This is an example, if you have a realtek card and connected with Optical)

DVD -> DVD Codecs
-- DVD Audio decoder AC3 Filter
-- Audio Renderer: Realtek Digital Output Optical (same as before)

Music
-- General Settings: Sound Device: Realtek Digital Output Optical (same again)

Directshow Filter Control:

-- MPC-MPA: SPDIF in both.

well I think that's all, remember that all my directions where assuming you are using onboard realtek card found on most new asus motherboard, but directions apply for most cards with minimal changes.

Keep in mind that this setting could let you without volume control in the remote, in that case you must control volume with you receiver.

keep me posted how did you go :)

Thanks for taking the time to go through that :)

I managed to get it working by removing all my codecs and re-installing them - now it works a charm!
I have also checked out what you have written to make sure my system mimics it just in case - but it is weird how it got fluffed up when I dont touch the settings!

BTW - I use AC3 Filter ;)
