I watch my pictures, movies and music on a Dell Latitude C610 1.2GHz Laptop. Everything is very smooth when watching. The problem is that when watching TV to the Laptop's MP client from TVE0.3 the CPU eats 98-100% and the stream looks very choppy. Is there any way to decrease the CPU load? I have tried killing all background processes, lowering the resolution, going from 32 to 16 bit colour, but nothing have helped offload the CPU. Tips and suggestions?

What mpeg decoder are you using? Look in the Movie section of the client setup.
Also, you can use graphedit to see which directshow filters are in the graph.

You should be able to have reasonable smooth mpeg2.

I'm using MPV decoder default settings. I can't see any changes if I 'm changing to DScaler or any of the purevideo variants. What settings can (in theory) make the streaming less CPU intensive? Does any quality setting affect the CPU load in the MP client?

240Mbit/s wireless network(Netgear Rangemax 240), maximum signal strength and maximum speed. Can the quality (bitrate) be lowered for the stream somehow?

First, I would eliminate the wireless as a possible suspect and run an ethernet cable to the PC for testing...if the problem goes away...

There's no real "quality" setting in MediaPortal other than the settings for individual codecs. If using MediaPortal for TV purposes, it plays back live TV streams (eg DVB) in their original quality (translated via the codecs, of course)...so, an overall quality setting is not required, and neither would transcoding be desired unless streaming to cellphones etc.

I inactivated the wireless network and connected through a wired 1000Mb/s switch connected through a 100Mb/s router with no load on it. Still the same stuttering, but the CPU is at 97-100% load. I guess the low performance graphics in the Dell Latitude 610 gives the CPU a hard time. I have downloaded the latest graphics drivers from Microsoft, but still no improvement.

What settings can affect the CPU load? I now use the external player (VLC) option. By the way, I wonder if the new streaming filter can lower the CPU load. That may be a way to go?Anybody noticing a lower CPU load during streaming with the new filter?
