Hello,
I would like to split possible situations into three cases to better understand the problem:
1) Normal avi or mkv file with external subtitle file
MPC-HC engine : OK - can be switched on-off with yellow remote button
DirectVobSub engine : OK - can be switched on-off with yellow remote button
2) MKV file with subtitles inside (as a mkv track)
MPC-HC engine : OK - can be switched on-off with yellow remote button
DirectVobSub : ERROR - the subtitles cannot be switched off. This is a serious problem if we have multi language file with subtitles.
It seems, that at this point MPC-HC is a clear winner, but:
3) MKV file with another pixel ratio than 1:1 (for example 720x576 MKV file displaying as 16:9) with external subtitle file
MPC-HC engine : ERROR - the displayed aspect ratio is 720x576, not 16:9. This is a serious problem and the file cannot be watched without brain damage
(Yes you can select another aspect ratio, but this is VERY annoying)
DirectVobSub : OK
You can see - there's currently no subtitle engine handling correctly all the cases. If you know any setting to fix the behavior for DirectVobSub (in case 2, I would prefer this option, directvobsub has more options to fix position etc.) or MPC-HC to fix the correct AR (in case 3) please answer.
