I should start by saying that I manage a few HTPCs.
And if it was only about a singly HTPC in the livingroom I'd be managing I would not try something else.
My systems are relatively complex but need to be used by simple folk. (1 remote, TV, fileserver, a/v receiver)
I do not have access to these systems all the time. That's where my main problem lies. Mediaportal usually works fine for a couple of weeks.
There are alot of variables and eventually something always goes wrong. Like when someone puts the computer into standby while a dvd is playing. And it comes back with a different resolution. When I got back to a system after a few weeks I noticed the horrible resolution (something the users do not understand, or notice).
Ofcourse there's a solution but still ( https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/...tandby-hibernation-resume-events-draft-57148/ ).
But there are others I cannot explain or fix...like when I come back and the PC still comes out of standby/sleep mode but mediaportal cannot start/restart because a file is missing.

So even though I've become quite familiar with MP... I'm going to try something else with less variables...
XBMC is such a product. I do not use TV so that won't bother me, HTPCs are powerful enough to play HD without HW decoding.
Codecs integrated, no directx, skins look nice. My first impression is quite positive...i hate dx
But I post this in the suggestion forum because I would like to see better damage control for when something goes wrong. Like backup config files that do not disappear when the program crashes. That monitor thingy you have now is just not good/advanced enough yet.
