I'm new to mediaportal and moving pictures but so far I like it very much.
I'm using moving pictures 0.7.5
I had a few requests:

I want to have categories (based on my folder structure)
I read this can be done in the new beta
(i will upgrade soon so this question is already answered)

My movies are structured in folder like family, personal movies, new and watched
(I use a new and watched folder so I can see outside mediaportal what I still need to see)
The problem is that when I move a movie from 'New' to 'Watched' moving pictures sais it found a new movie and I need to select and redownload all data for that movie again.

Isn't it possible to implement: if a new movie is found with the same name as already imported, take that data or change the stored data/path to the new movie (when original movie can't be found anymore (so it was moved))

And a second question: most of the time I put a trailer of the movie in the movie folder
(mostly mov files)
Is it possible to skip the mov files or what is even better is when the movie was found 2 times and 1 of the files has 'trailer' in its name link the two together (with maybe an option in when you are in moving pictures on that movie to watch the trailer?)
At the moment he adds the movie 2 times (1 time the whole movie and a second time the trailer)

And for my final question: when will the beta change to release?
(I wanted to wait untill beta was done)
Thanks

Jeroen

Please just try out the new beta, before you go on and on about improvements which as far as I understand your request are all already implemented in version 1.

The fact it is a beta shouldn't be a frightning aspect. It makes an automatic backup of your old stuff when you use the installer, or you can manually back everything up very easy when you install it yourself from ZIP.

There are a few minor flaws in beta2, and beta3 should be released tonight which addresses almost everything. I've been running all the betas in a production setup and never lost a single movie, or found a problem preventing me from enjoying it. Things have only improved and they continue to do so as the developers constantly add new things and fix the small problems that are reported.

Version 1 contains a file monitor system that uses hashes. This mean it will recognize existing movies when you move them within import folders, so it doesn't even need to scrape the information again, it simply makes an update on the new location (or filename). Also, there is no need at all to manually keep track on a watched/unwatched folder setup, because MovingPictures already takes care of that. But if you want to keep that system going, then you really need to upgrade.

The FAQ that I've created explains a lot of the things that are possible with version 1, so read that one, so you have an idea how to go about all the requests you made.

    Thanks for the fast reply.
Ill wait for beta 3 and will try it out when it is released.
    It seems very promessing.

If you do not add any new movies, you can already use beta2 now. With beta2 it would store the images in PNG extension which caused problems with MediaPortal. This has been fixed a while ago and beta3 will include this fix.

But I've run beta1 and beta2 for a long time now (still do), and it works extremly stable.

Later today (or possibly tomorrow depending on your timezone), you can then upgrade with beta3. The reason it is so easy to upgrade is because the database itself remains the same, and any database changes that require modification on the database are automatically done by the plugin when you start it up.

Or you can backup your MediaPortal program and data folders, mess around with beta2, so you get a good idea and then restore the backup and wait for beta3 (although I have a feeling you will stick with it ).

Backups are always a good thing to do anyway.
