Alright, I'm hoping this function is available already... but I can't find it.

When we are going through our movie list in Moving Pictures, is there a way to tag the ones that we are considering viewing for the night?

I have about 700 or so movies saved to my HDD... so by the time we get to the middle and end of the movie list we forget which ones we were comparing to decide which to watch. Basically if there was an option to go through the list, tag each movie we are considering (maybe 10 or so movies)... then sorting the movies to show just the tagged ones. Is this possible?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the quick reply! I didn't think it was available, but it is great news that it may be in the future.

Thanks again!

I actually use a smart workaround to do exactly this function, and that is by abusing the User-Rating system with custom categories.

I've got a very complex system myself, so I'll try to simplify it. This only works on MovingPictures v1.0+ so you have to update with the current beta first if you haven't done so already.

First create a new category, call it for example "Tagged Movies To Watch", and setup a filter rule to show movies that have a user-rating equal to '3' (use FAQ on how to do this).

Then all you do is go through your entire collection (this part you can do within GUI) and when you come across a movie you want to watch, you bring up the context menu (F9 on keyboard, right click with mouse while on title, or find out what remote button it is), and then select "Movie Options ..." -> "Rate Movie" -> '3' is default, so just click 'OK' again.

After you 'tagged' all your movies, go to the "Tagged Movies To Watch" and all movies that have a user-rating of '3' will show.

The movies however remain in this list, so you either need to adjust the category filter to also exclude movies that you have watched (you can also apply this afterwards via the options menu with "Filter By ..." -> "Unwatched Movies"), or use other combinations (for example I combine some categories like this with the recently added logic so movies automatically dissapear from the list over time, but this only works for newly added movies).

You can also just rate the movies after you are done watching to a rating higher or lower then '3', depending on how good you thought the movie was.

I myself use '3' to tag movies for wife+me, '2' to tag movies for the 'wife', '4' to tag movies for me, '1' for crappy movies and '5' for movies that are good to watch again. Then I got many custom categories configured to use this information, because it can be combined with other information, such as age of movie, amount of times it has been watched, etc, etc.

Hope this helps, and if not, then just relax till the new functionality gets added

PS: Instead of category you can also just create filters to only show movies with a user-rating of '3', that you apply via the "Filter By ..." -> "Your Filter Name" option menu (left/right arrow).

PS2: I combine most of my filters with the Parental Lock filter option as well, which is set to contain movies that have a certain user-rating set. This gives me a faster response time on movies appearing/dissapearing in the categories I use. Just try a few combinations, see what works best for you.

^^ I'll definitely have to give your system a shot and see how it works for me. I'm currently at work, but will try asap when I get home.

    :D
