It would be very useful if the TV server had a Task Bar icon so that you know that all things are ok or a problem is known as often there maybe a problem and not know about it until you watch tv and of course any recodings you set up have not been recorded.

Could be very useful indeed, maybe even a icon with two colors, one for when the server is running and one for when it is stopped...and maybe a right click feature to go to configuration...

erm..... anyone of you noticed that the TV-Server is a windows service?
so it does not have any gui.

anything you would like to see in the tasbar, would have to be an additional application which is communicating with the service to ....... do something you have not specified yet in this thread.

the idea of a monitoring or remote control tool is not bad, but you should think about it and then try to be very specific about what it should be able to do.

maybe even create a mockup in photoshop of the gui :)

Below taken from the link in my previous posting.

Please note that gbPVR has a separate schedule and recording service similar to TVServer/TVEngine

Replace GB-PVR with TvServer and we have a list o features for a tray icon.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Slimm GB-PVR offers the following features without having to load the main GB-PVR media center application:

System tray icon that indicates visually when GB-PVR is recording.
Prevents system session ending while recording so you cannot accidentally log off, restart or turn off your machine.
Automatically restart the recording service when it crashes
    Delete completed recordings by right-clicking
Automatically offers to delete recordings you have finished watching if you launch them from the tray utility
    Cancel reoccurring recordings.
    Cancel pending recordings.
Balloon tip notification when GB-PVR starts and stops recording.
Hovering over or clicking the system tray icon will show you what is currently recording (if anything) and the next one to three scheduled recordings.
Request to stop any active recording.
Shutdown (hibernate, log off, restart, stand by or turn off) computer. If any recordings are currently active, the shutdown will occur when GB-PVR has finished its’ current recording session.
‘Safe’ restart recording service, ie, if any recordings are currently active, confirmation is sought before the service is restarted.
‘Safe’ GB-PVR config launch, ie, if any recordings are currently active, a warning message is shown.
    GB-PVR media center launch.
    Update EPG.
Web-link to GB-PVR and Slimm Solutions websites via About box.
List contents of recordings folder and allows you to launch the file directly from there.

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To all devs keep up the good work,

The TV service runs as a service, but the setup app could be made to run minimised in the system tray? Ideal indicators would be the following:

    Whether's it's recording or idle
Hovering or clicking once could show a brief detail as to what each tuner is currently doing.

Vista Media Center has an icon too. It shows:

    - when downloading EPG
    - starting of a recording (baloon-tip)
    - Red Dot, while recording (mouse over to see the title, click to open Media Center)
    - Info (baloon and icon), when somthing went wrong (e.g. a recording did't start)

Vista has also a "supervisor" service, which restarts the recording or tv services when they crash. I have to do it manually with MP TVService...
This is the minimum of needful features, but the other from GB-PVR are also nice to have.
