Hello everybody, and especially the ones with a technisat cablestar combo, a terratec H7 or Technotrend TT-connect CT-3650.

1. Since this 3 devices are more or less equal in hardware, i would like to know how youre switch timings are (time between switching channel ^^). Also your settings would be interresting.

>>Im using an acer laptop with windows 7 64bit and core i5, radeon 5850 and 4gb ram. So the hardware should do fine.
But im having trouble all the time. First i had to add the tvlibrary.dll fix for the terratec h7. And still most of the channels are marked red. I can watch them, but theres no information for the channels (no information found) under every channel. Guess the epg doesnt work, and the CI Menü doesnt show any alphacrypt too. The time between channels takes about 5 or more seconds. The newest dvb viewer (4.8) does it in 1-2 seconds (4.5 did it in 3-4), what let me come to the conclusion that the cablestar isnt the problem. Seems like this device isnt supported well by mediaportal.
My settings are: grouped dvb-t and dvb-c to a group, dvb-t deactivated. dvb-c cam enabled, 1 channel. Stop for the idle option, generic for the cam thing on the bottom. Im from germany, my provider is unitymedia. Im using an Alphycrypt classic 3.19.<<

2. Ive red that there is a possibility of changing the drivers from terratec for example to run with the cablestar by changing the driver a little bit. Any ideas on that?

3. Could the codec choise change the timings? I havent looked there yet.

4. And another thing: Since the usb cable of this card is about ... to short, i bought a usb cable hub. It is passive and not very long, but the card doesnt work with it. In another forum ive red that i have to take care that the box is alone on a usb root hub. But i just got 2 in my notebook (windows/device manager/usb controller/usb-root-hub). With a hub there would be automaticly 2 devices on one root hub since the usb hub is a device for itself. Is this true? I dont wanna buy an active usb hub to figure out that it is like ive red. Ive already contacted the technisat suppot with this problem but they dont seem to answer.

please help me. This boxes are the only option i got (couldnt find any other laptop cards, i got no pcmcia slot) and i want to make them (it) work!

If you search the forum for "3650" you'll find plenty of comments - some good, some bad. It might be good to pay attention to -->this post<--. Although the 3650 is not referenced, it is entirely possible that setting the modulation correctly could greatly improve channel switching speeds.

And still most of the channels are marked red. I can watch them, but theres no information for the channels (no information found) under every channel. Guess the epg doesnt work...
Have you enabled the EPG grabber and enabled grabbing on those channels? EPG data isn't just picked up automatically.

...and the CI Menü doesnt show any alphacrypt too.
What do you mean - can you explain in more detail?

The time between channels takes about 5 or more seconds. The newest dvb viewer (4.8) does it in 1-2 seconds (4.5 did it in 3-4), what let me come to the conclusion that the cablestar isnt the problem. Seems like this device isnt supported well by mediaportal.
Try setting the modulations as mentioned above, and you can also experiment with using the older DVB-C or DVB-T network provider instead of the generic one. The tuner driver may like that better.

    2. Ive red that there is a possibility of changing the drivers from terratec for example to run with the cablestar by changing the driver a little bit. Any ideas on that?
Yes, I have ideas on this. I think I already explained how to do it in the patch thread - you just have to modify the device paths in the driver ini file a little bit.

    3. Could the codec choise change the timings?
    Yes.

    4. And another thing: Since the usb cable of this card is about ... to short, i bought a usb cable hub. It is passive and not very long, but the card doesnt work with it. No idea, sorry.

I think you should post your logs so I can see where the slowness is. Without logs, there is little chance to know this for sure ==> little chance to help you.

In regard to using different drivers...

According to the inf files you posted -->here<-- those two drivers should both be compatible without any need for changes. Just uninstall the old driver completely if you want to try a different one. They are compatible because they use the same device path:

Wow great. Thank you very much, especially for the link where the settings and the time between channels are discussed.

What i meant with the ci menu: When you are in the menu where you can scan for channels, you got another tab with CI MENU. But for me it is empty. In dvb viewer he shows me the infos of the um2 card or what its name.

Also i have to say sry, i made a mistake with the inf files. Ive tried to modify them on my own and recognized that they are totaly different some lines later. I uploaded my modified ones. But just the first 10 lines are modiefied. Do you think it will work like this when i just go on changing the directory?
I will upload the files later, im busy today. I will try to manage the settings later, too.

until then, thank you very much, again

    Hello again

ive tested the modulation thing and recognized they're all set right. There even is no "auto" setting in 1.2.1.0 for the channel modulation in the tv channels menu. There is "not defined" or "not set", but like i said, they're all set to 256 qam or 64qam.

I played a bit with the epg but still he just showed me a few channels like mtv or bluemovie and the paymovie channels. Now i've set up the web epg and im fine with it.

The usb problem is solved also. Since i want to use my great powerful laptop as a one for all solution and the usb tv- and usb soundcard are far away from my seat, i needed an usb extention with a hub. The first try with a passive hub made me nearly cry. But i've borrought an active hub from a friend and it works like a charme.

The driver thing is the biggest question: wich is the best? To test all of them on my device would propperly take a week and would crash my box for sure. So i have to depend on you, my new friends :D i guess i will just read some more since there are planty of threads for this "kind" of device like you've said mm1352000.

Still not solved are the following problems:

Switching time: It got better somehow, but not as good as it could be. Could smb tell me wich codec is the best atm? And what is the difference between? I could imagine that better quality is equal to performance use and switching time. Also i got an ati radeon 5850 wich i can select for video encoding. Should i? In the menu itself is written that these are only used when the tv card hardware has no hardware encoder. But it has, right?

The CI Menu still doesnt show anything. The field where the information should appear is white. Could a alphycrypt update help? I got 3.19 installed.

mm1352000, what do you mean with experimenting with the older dvbc provider? The channels file(s) for, in my case, unity media?

Another thing ive mentioned, better to explain with a picture:

    attachment.php

Why are they red? I dont rly know what the icons mean anyway, but it doenst look like it should be that way. I can watch this channels, btw.

    I finaly attached my logs.

    :D

    Okay.

There even is no "auto" setting in 1.2.1.0 for the channel modulation in the tv channels menu.
"Auto" in DVBViewer is probably "not defined" or "not set".

The driver thing is the biggest question: wich is the best?
For the 3650 people have been recommending 1.0.2.20, but I don't have the tuner so I can't confirm. Other drivers might be better - most people would not have tried the drivers from the other resellers.

    Switching time...
Take the example of switching to SAT.1 in your logs. Deciding which tuner to use took 10 ms (TV Server). Tuning took just under 1 second (~95% driver). Waiting for and decoding PMT (information about the available video and audio streams) took about 200 ms (TV Server). Telling the CAM to descramble took 1 second (all driver). Waiting for the timeshift file to be created took 740 ms (HDD speed). Total of ~3.1 s to tune. Then MP takes probably another second to start showing TV - this could be reduced if you *set your TV codec preferences* (leaving them unset is very bad). You could also try to reduce the zap timeout/delay (time before starting the switch) as described -->here<--.

Anyhow as you can see, most of the delay is out of our hands. You have settings you can change and the rest is driver, HDD and codecs.

Also i got an ati radeon 5850 wich i can select for video encoding. Should i? In the menu itself is written that these are only used when the tv card hardware has no hardware encoder. But it has, right?
Encoding is only relevant for analog tuners. MP has to *decode* the signal in this case. For the MPEG 2 channels like SAT.1 it doesn't really matter. For the HD channels like Das Erste HD then it might help with CPU load, but probably not a lot with switching speed.

The CI Menu still doesnt show anything. The field where the information should appear is white. Could a alphycrypt update help? I got 3.19 installed.
No, I think the CI menu for Twinhan/Terratec/Technisat tuners is broken somehow in our code. I need a CI module to be able to try to fix this.

mm1352000, what do you mean with experimenting with the older dvbc provider?
It is the thing you mentioned:
...generic for the cam thing on the bottom.
That is not for CAMs. Read the details in our wiki for "preferred network provider" -->here<--. It *might* help but it also might cause problems.

    Why are they red?
Red means encrypted. Green means free-to-air.
