Timeline e.g. navigation bar

Summary:

New feature. What do you think about a timeline in the myVideo and myDVD skin like you have in WinAmp or other Video / DVD players

Description:

Very often I'm using MediaPortal with my Media Keyboard. Sometimes I wann a move to another point in the film like I can do it with the timeline in WinAmp. For example I'm starting a video and wanna move to the mid of the video with the mouse cursor.
Is it possible to implement it in the myVideo Skin?

Best regards

Tom

This will be implemented in the next SVN build. Move the mouse cursor to the top of the screen and a "timebar" will appear. Click anywhere in the bar to jump to that position in the movie.

Hey DalaNorth, I just wanted to say thank you. You seem to have popped up from nowhere and taken it upon yourself to fix some long running bugs and add a few nie new features.

MP is always happy for another top notch programmer :)

Nothing happen for me when I put the cursor to the top of the screen. Is it only in a certain skin?

I want to ask for something that will make timeline navigation much easier. Currently I am using Zoom Player as external player, only because its method of timeline navigation is simply great. At least for me, I never saw any other such intuitive method.
My suggestion is that timeline navigation in MP will work as follows:
    - Each press on right/left arrow, will display the timebar and skip (for example) 15 seconds backwards/forward.
    - Continuous press on right/left will display the timebar and skip 15 seconds backwards/forward repeatedly every (for example) half a second. The correct video frame will be displayed on each skip.
    - Each press on up/down arrows, will display the timebar and skip (for example) 4 minutes backwards/forward.
    - Continuous press on up/down will display the timebar and skip 4 minutes backwards/forward repeatedly every (for example) half a second. The correct video frame will be displayed on each skip.
    - Possibly when timebar is displayed, also the filename will be displayed.
    - The timebar will disappear automatically after (for example) 2 seconds.

I think actually there are only few changes needed for it, and if it can be done it can probably live together with the current way of navigation. Here is my suggestion for the changes:
    - If setting "Timeout before skipping occurs" to "0", continuous pressing on arrows should make a fluent continuous navigation. (Currently it is very slow).
    - Navigation for up/down arrows should pop up timebar and should be configurable the same way that right/left arrows are now configurable.

    I hope this is possible.

    Thanks.

Hmmm... Have you enabled "Show special mouse controls" in the configuration under General? The clickable timeline should work...

Thank you for your suggestions for changes. Worth considering...

    Thanks DalaNorth.

No I didn't... Now that I enabled it does appear. But I cannot click the timebar because the skin I use (BlackMyst) displays the timebar closer to the bottom of the screen. So if I move the mouse there, it disappears before I reach it.
Actually this feature is not for me because I do not use a mouse for the HTPC.

Thanks. Would it be possible for now to see if something can be done regardging the issue of "Timeout before skipping occurs" = "0"? If skipping in this case will be fluent, it will already make a big difference.

    I've changed my mind...
When pressing left/right/up/down with the MCE remote the skipping is fluent. And for me it is more important than using keyboard.
So actually what will make the big difference for me is just an ability to see the time bar while continious skipping. Currently on right/left it flashes in a way that it is impossible to see the location, and in up/down there is no timebar at all.

    Thanks again,
    D.
