Synopsis::

There seems to be a really nasty bug in the latest SVN build of Mediaportal. When recording a show, the show stops recording when it is done but the timeshifting feature will not turn off resulting in huge file sizes of recorded programs. After the recording is done, timeshifting is still on and does not turn off unless I manually turn it off. When I first press tv on, timeshifting does not come on with it. Only if I record a program then does timeshifting comes on and stays on after the recording has gone off. Sorry if I'm being repetative. I'm not very good in explaining things.

Anyone else experience this or could it just be something with my PC? It only happens if I let mediaportal stop the recording when the show has finished. If I manually stop the recording, timeshifting turns off. Also if I do a manual recording, it also happens if I don't stop the recording myself. Forgot to include the log file. I don't know where to send it so I will paste it on here.

Hi, I''m still having the same problem with timeshifting not turning off after trying the latest SVN and the tv codec set to mpv and mpa. Could it be something with my computer? Currupt files perhaps? Or maybe Windows Media player 11 beta which I have installed? How do i check for and repair and or replace currupt files on my pc? PC seems to be running ok but I notice that sometimes when I want to turn it off, via start, turn of computer, windows explorer crashes and I loose my start button and the complete task bar for a moment. It then returns and I then am able to turn off or restart my comptuer. However I like the combanation of this latest SVN and the mpv and mpa codec for tv because I notice my recordings start pretty much as soon as I click record now. My recordings not starting on time was another problem I was having which I was going to post about but I ran into this bigger problem before I could post about my recordings not starting on time. I will post the log to MP Pastebin. Thanks for trying to help.

Timeshifting not turning off doesn't surprise me, but the recording of the program should finish at the correct time (plus any post-record time you have set).

No the recording stops when it suppose to stop but timeshifting stays on. The recorded file continued to grow. A movie that was about an hour and 45 minutes usually is about 3.4GB to 4GB I recorded a movie about two days ago that was around an hour and 45 min and it went of 9GB. Another recording, a show I recorded, was an hour long and come out to over 5GB instead of normal around 2.1GB or so. Now portions of shows and movies I record register at 8.94KB yes that's KB. Where can I send u guys a scren shot to show you the weird file size. the complete portion of whatever I recorded is there in the file too. Should I record an entire program and see what the final file size comes out to be? Also I have no pre and post time defined. They are both set to 0 minutes. Thanks.

From my recollection, it is normal for timeshifting to stay on after a manual recording.

How can the recorded file continue to grow if the recording has actually stopped (as you stated above)?

When you play this file, does it have more content at the end (a portion of next program) than you had selected to record? For example, if you stop MediaPortal 15 minutes after the recording was scheduled to finish, does the resulting recorded file contain the extra 15 minutes of program?

What Quality Setting do you have set - maybe this is set high (8,000 to 12,000 kb/s) and is the reason for your resulting large files?

for the tiny files, this is normal if you choose to "record the current program". The tiny file is like an index, telling MP where all the sbe files are which actually have the data.

For the other issue, I know this is way obvious, but has to be asked. Have you made sure the post record settings haven't changed? Made sure the TV database hasn't become corrupt and made a stupidly high value? From what you say, it's unlikely but you never know...

Sorry for the confussion even I am a bit confused about this. I understand your statement about how can a file continue to grow after it has stopped recording. When I played the file, it had some extra stuff after the movie but not much. I had recorded a movie on a premium movie channel the movies tend to fnish before the next scheduled movie is to start. For example a movie starts at exactly at 6 35 am and although the guide has it that it will go off at 8 35 am, it will finish say maybe about 8 15 or so. If I stop mediaportal 15 minutes after a recording is scheduled to finish, I will have the extra 15 minutes in my file. I have set use quality control and set the quality to medium but reguardless of what quality I select, the file will always come out to 64912kbps. I think I might know what could be the problem. A few days ago, I edited the file name format for my recordings. For my tv shows I used the following format. %title% for title of teh show and %name% for epsisode name so the file name would read like this "cold case files mommy Rules". Cold Case Files is the name of hte tv show and mommy rules is the episode name. For movies, I just typed in %titl% so I could just have the title of the movie instead of all the extra info that I don't want along with the title of the movie in the file name. Disreaguard what I said about getting files that were 8.94KB. Deleteing what I typed before in the format feild under the custom paths and filenames tab in the recording section of the MP setup program got me back to the big file sizes. However, the recordings are still comming out too big. I just recorded a half hour show and it came out to 2.74 GB instead of about 1GB per half hour or so. That explains why I thought it was still recording even though it did stop recording and timeshifing was still running. Lets see, 2.74x2 (the 2 represents an hour)= 5.48GB. So a movie that about an hour and 45 minutes would be about 9.5GB. Sorry for the confussion. I wonder what caused the increase in file size.
