There seems to be a problem with the TV Server when a networked drive is selected to be used as the timeshift directory. I wanted to use my RAID 5 file server because it has faster write speed than the HDD on my MP Server which would help with any problems caused by slow write speeds. The problem was when I tried to watch TV, I kept getting the error "Cannot start timeshifting. No audio or video detected." When I switched the tineshifting directory back to a local disk everything works fine. Below is the TsWriter log:

    Hi,

Well, for some reason it thinks there isn't enough disk space. How much space do you have on your RAID? What type of RAID is it? Does it need drivers?

I know that it isn't possible to determine the amount of free space on a network share (not necessarily a drive). Does Windows show how much space is free on the drive? Maybe MediaPortal can't tell if there is enough space?

I think you need to give the developers a bit more info.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

MP usually needs UNC paths for network shares. Not sure if this is possible with NAS. Can you change from z:\Timeshift to \\NAS\timeshift instead? (or whatever else you call your NAS module).

This could be an odd bug as if you check the 'disk quota' page in the TVsetup, Network drives aren't listed.

Using unc like "\\server\timeshift" doesent work... Mediaportal configurator crash/freeze/no respond...
But it wrote changes to config file. So when i started mediaportal, i got the "cannot start timeshift....." immediately

Pretty much the same result using z:\

Have to change back to my D: drive for timeshift/recording.

This has been a problem for me using dedicated NAS boxes, like Synology 207, DLink DNS-323 and there is a problem when i use my Windows Home Server. (i use a 1gb network)

Windows has always reported correct space avail.

Yes, I saw that the error was that there isn't enough disk space, but this can't be true, because I have 700GB free on the network share and windows shows this properly. I can try to use \\NAS\Timeshifting tonight when I get home, but it sounds like that won't work either.

I'm seeing a similar problem with my setup, last night I configured my recording directory as a mapped share on my Linux box and MP refused to record. I'll have a trawl through the logs later and post back here.

The Tvservice runs as "Local system account". This account does not have the same permissions on the network as the logged in user. Can this be the problem ?

I really doubt that... but if you are willing to try, and report your experience that would be great...

(have several other services running that is highly network-related with the same priviliges..)

I don't know what kind of server hobbes is using, but if it's a Windows server, "null session shares" has to be enabled before "Local system account" can write files to a network share.
I can test at home later today. (Had to enable null session shares for MCE to record to fileshare earlier this year).
