Hello folks!

I'm a total n00b at this. I tried a while back, but gave up too easy. Now i figured i should give it a new shoot, and i have a few questions to you smart guys out here.

I think C# is what i want to learn, it seems like a decent and flexible language to know. So i wonder about what are the limitations? And if someone can recommend a forum or tutorial to learn this, that would be nice.

Edit: Just started to download C# Express Edition, and it suggests that i DL Silverlight and MSSQL Express, do i need them?

No, you don't need silverlight (it's a rival of (Adobe) Flash). And for programming MP plugins you don't need MS SQL.

I could show you a lot of interesting websites, but only german one^^. And you are from Norway ;)
What do you want to develop first? Learning by doing is very good, so start a mini-projekt to improve your skills.

If you want to develop a mp plugin you should read this.

I don't know exactly, i just want some basic skills to begin with, and take it step by step. It would be nice to find a English (doubt i'll ever find a god Norwegian one) tutorial, starting with the basics such as "Hello world" and keep moving forward, a tutorial known for being good.

It would be nice to reach a level where i can create useful things such as MP plugins and other small applications, but i don't want to set my goals to high, because i know that it's a lot to learn...

I have no idea how the educational system works in Norway but if you want to learn programming I'd recommend you take some courses (preferable at a university). This will spare you a LOT of trouble figuring out basic stuff that any teacher/professor could teach you in minutes.

If that's not an option from you, buy a book. I can't recommend a good beginners book for programming but you'll get everything at one place and don't have to go through dozens of bad tutorials until you find a few good ones... ;)

And yet one more thing :p this time regarding software choice. I've already downloaded C# Express Edition, but then i came to think of my MSDN AA account, which provides me for instance MS Visual Studio 2008 Professional x64 WoW, that might be the best choice, right? I've also read something about MSDN Libraries somewhere which also seems to be available for me, is that something that might come in handy? I dunno what it is, i guess it's program-examples and small program features pre-programmed for my use...

The MSDN Libraries describe all methods, interfaces etc. sometimes with good examples. This can help you, but i think you will need MSDN when you learned the basic skills. The internet is full of code sites and examples, try to search for "C# for beginner" "C# in 21 days" ...

No feedback on the suggested books? And VS2008Pro x64 WoW is a excellent choice of software?
