No, you don't need silverlight (it's a rival of (Adobe) Flash). And for programming MP plugins you don't need MS SQL.

I could show you a lot of interesting websites, but only german one^^. And you are from Norway

What do you want to develop first? Learning by doing is very good, so start a mini-projekt to improve your skills.
