Is there some way to create a complete backup of the downloaded information that tvseries uses that will work on a different computer without connecting to the internet?

At home I have a very small download limit via satellite and can't setup my database once, let alone the two times I'll need to. (Laptop and desktop/server)

The setup at home is that the desktop has all the media attached to it and the laptop accesses it via the network.

I pay for an adsl2+ connection at my grandparent's house and have plenty of quota there but don't want to have to pack my desktop computer up and bring it to town.

I have all of my media backed up on external hdds so want to bring the ehdds and the laptop to town and have tvseries download all the fanart, covers, details etc. Then when I get home copy the data to the desktop and tell it that the shows are on <drive letter>:\tv and change the laptop to look in \\<computer name>\tv

Possible or am I going to have to drag the desktop to town? If I copy the fanart, etc folders across will it recognise them and not download others?

The MP-TVSeries (as well as MovingPictures) plugin keeps all the data it uses seperate from MediaPortal. So you can indeed very easy transfer this data from one system to another, as long as each computer sees the same. So for example if you have computer #1 with 100 TV episodes, and you want to use computer #2 to grab the info for 10 new shows, then you need to also have those 100 episodes from computer #1 on computer #2, or it will assume you deleted them.

As long as they are idential, you can copy the database and images over and no internet connection is required.

If your external harddisk houses all your TV episodes, then it will be very easy to setup. You simply ensure that the external drive has the same drive letter at computer #1 as it does on computer #2, and the resulting MP-TVSeries database will be exchangable between both systems.

Another option is to use VirtualBox or any other VM to duplicate the setup of computer #1 on computer #2, or in a LAN situation use UNC paths.

Thanks, so I will just have to set it up twice on the laptop, once using the drive letters that the desktop will use, backup the files it creates to put them on the desktop computer, then change it to the unc paths?

Also once the initial setup is finished I'll be able to keep the databases up-to-date at home without damaging the quota too badly.

    :D

ps I have all the data for moving pictures in the movie folders so that's already sorted.
