I just ran across this article that claims that many of the HDTVs people already have are 3D capable with a fairly easy and cheap tweak. Apparently the software analyzes video that was not originally shot in 3D and makes its own conversions so you can watch any video you already own in 'Tri-Def.'
I won't be trying this any time soon since 1) I don't own a supported display and 2) I am mostly blind in one eye from a soccer injury so I don't see 3D so well anyhow. Still it sounds very cool and I'd love to hear from people who get it working whether it's worth the hassle (and wearing glasses) or not.
