I just did a fresh install of MediaPortal 1.1 and StreamedMP-1.2.1.1553.exe . It comes with MP-TVSeries 2.6.0.1157

Everything except TV-Series is working ok.I wasn't sure if I am suppose to post here or the Streamed-MP thread? I hope this is ok. Questions ...

1. When I start the Importer Tab, all the parsing looks fine and there are no flagged errors. When it's finished, whole Series folders were skipped, but it never asked me "Unable to find matching series". Repeating the Import does the same thing.

2. During the whole Win-XP, MP install ... about the only time anything has crashed on me was during this Import. I've tried deleteing the Databse entries that made it, and start over, but same thing. Sometimes it makes it through without crashing ... sometimes not.

These same folders/files worked on 1.0.2 . Please help, thanks.

Ok, sorry.

I turned on Debug. I also turned on the Watchdog, but it doesn't seem to apply to using MP-Config.

So, I clicked "Empty" DB in TV-Series. Then I went to Import to get a fresh Import. It got to Step 4 where it does all the work. Like usual, it locked up here. The blue clock icon froze on Identifying Episodes 8 of 34. It's been like that for about 10 minutes. the program is frozen and Cancel doesn't work. I will use Task Mananger to end the task. Hopefully, you will see something in these logs.

Thanks for your help.

So does it always hang at 8/34?
Logs says it reveived progress up to 9/34...but perhaps that doesn't show up.
Last one it processes is either Farscape or Fringe, can you try to narrow it down by importing only one of those two series and see if it hangs too? Easiest would be if you have them in their own subdirectory so you can just change ur import dir to that.
If you can figure out what series is it, attach (or pm me) a dump of filenames from that series, so we can try to reproduce this locally.

Edit: Also on your 1) above
Those series folders that get skipped, you say u see them fine in step 1 (no parsing errors), do the series show up in step 2 and do you set them to approved (if they don't get auto approved?)

First, thanks for helping me with this. I was just getting ready to move the system to the plasma and amp in living room (from my office) and then this problem showed up (potentially a deal breaker). I have an Acronis Image if I have to use it (taken before StreamedMP suite was installed) but using it will really set me back.

No, sometimes it makes it all the way through. I'm pretty sure the files, names, and folder are good because I have used them on 3 different systems with very little change. Each Series is in their own folder.

It seems to be this new Wizard system. It really has a problem not locking up on the Processing Screen (the one with the blue clocks). Maybe more problems when it's doing 2 tasks at the same time.

Yes, the ones that get skipped ... they show on the test parse, and the real parse. I also noticed this ...
Office (US) gets incorrectly selected as Office (UK) and is green. If I change it to Office (US) ... it says Approved on the right BUT unless I manually select Approved again, it "doesn't take" and adds it as Office (UK). Also, the beige Skips don't actually get skipped unless I manually reselect Skip for each one.

I tried deleting the TV-Series DB (it gets recreated) but no help. Not sure how to delete all the graphics to really start over. I thought there used to be a button, but I can't find it now.

This is the first ime I used mySQL5 (because it was the default). I really hope that is not the problem because that will set me WAY back.

Is there a new better version? I think I can upgrade over this Streamed-MP bundled version.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I just deleted the DB again, rebooted. Ran import ... this time it locked up on:

    Local File Parsing:
    Reading MediaInfo of local files
    40 of 311 files

    MetaData
    Identifying Episodes
    2 of 32 (Seven Days)

Both blue clocks stopped. Had to End Task.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With Logging on Debug, it always crashed and never would finish. Had to set on Warning.

Ran Import and didn't select or modify anything in Wizard (afraid to).

It completed and added the the majority of the TV Series folders (including Farscape, Fringe, etc.) those lockups were random and had nothing to do with the files are folders it was currently processing.

But since about 6 Series folders didn't import properly, I would say it was a bad import.

I know you guys worked hard on this new Wizard based interface, but it's very broken for me. The old version worked very good (never had a problem). I will be on the lookout for a new verison. Not sure what is differnt about my new setup ... maybe Win-XP is too legacy these days. In about 5 minutes, I will have "My System" on the left updated to the new specs.

Like I said, this new system has been super stable ... not one crash in XP or MP until working with this new TV Series.

Thanks again for the help. If I can help testing a fixed version, just let me know.

You mix up crash, locked up and hang, I assume you mean hang in both cases (or does it actually crash, as in the application exits/pops up a generic .net exception dialog?). When it hangs, does the UI freeze or can u still interact with it, and does your cpu reach 100% (on a core), does it flatline to zero, or does it have some usage? This helps us identify if we have a deadlock, infinte loop, or something is merely taking too long so that it seems like it hangs.

Can you actually switch the TVSeries Log level to debug, and not the mediaportal general one? and upload that (set it in the plugin configuration screen). Please do this first.

As to why the changes in the wizard dont take hold for you.....this is weird, as we tested that stuff alot. Perhaps we missed some cases. I will test again.

I suppose the correct term is "hang". The blue clocks stop and processing stops. Cancel button doesn't work. When I go to Task Manager to stop the process, I do not see any unusually high CPU useage. I also noticed it does not say "Not Responding" but simply "Running" (like maybe it's purposely waiting for something?). After going to Task Manager to check on it, or opening a browser window to check net connection (always fine) when closing those windows, the TV-Series Processing Screen is distorted and will not refresh.

I wonder if it's related to this.

    Maybe it's having a problem talking to thetvdb.com ?

Maybe there should be a routine that says "if I don't hear from thetvdb.com for 1 minute (or get trashed data) skip that part and process what I did get. Maybe automatically try again to finish up. Basically, more error control in the Processing Routine.

The problem is that when it hangs like that and I have to End Task, it leaves the DB in a "courrupted" state. It also will damage previously good entries. The Series end up grayed out and all the pics go away. Once they end up like that, I couldn't figure out a way to fix them. It would be nice if the entries that correctly make it into the DB would stay, and could never be damaged by a future failed import attempt.

At this point, it almost seems like the imported should be using a temp DB table. If the import goes badly, it can be tossed away and not merged.

The high logging level (debug) affecting it is puzzling unless maybe it's dragging down the timing. Also, not sure why the modify/skip/approve part for the Wizard interface is not working for me if it works for you.

I will try deleting the DB and set only debug level on TV-Series and try again.

I did get a real app. crash once, but I think it was just MP-Config after killing TV-Series one too many times.

It seems that only switching Tv-Series logs to Debug has the same effect ... it really cuts down your chances of the Processing to complete and not hang.

Please see attached logs. This one hung-up as well. No changes were made to the import files/folders set since it managed to make it through once last night.

Ok, I made a little progress and an interesting find ...

If I turn off Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials (Real-time Scanning) it hasn't hung-up again at the Processing Screen. There is a point where the TV-Series logo (row of TVs) flashes. Well, with those apps running, the logo never flashes and I think that's when it normally hangs-up.

This is with a blank database ... The procedure seemed different (I never got the Skip/Approve screen) and I had to run through the Wizard several time to get everything into the DB correctly.

With no Skip/Approve it made some assumtions that were incorrect. How do we fix those once they have been imported? I tried deleting (Delete from DB only) those Series from the DB screen, but when I try to Import again, nothing shows up to import. I tried the "Clear Update TimeStamps" but it didn't help. In Moving Pictures there used to be an option like "un-ignore ignored files" ... seems like I need a option like that?

    Edit:

Turned Windows Firewall back on and it still works.

Seems it is the Microsoft Security Essentials Real-Time Scanning causing the problem. It stops the TV-Series logo from flashing during Processing (and more importantly, whatever TV-Series is doing during that step).

When Microsoft Security Essentials was running, it never appeared or notified me of any attempted violation. It's logs are clean also.

Hopefully that will help create a fix. I don't like Turning off my AV protection, but it's an acceptable work-around for now.

Please advise on how to un-ignore Series Folders or how to manually add a Series to the DB. Thanks again.

I think I remembered something like "cannot write to log file" while running config/importer - log is owerwritten, so can't attach it now - but when you say, that debug logging makes hanging more appearing, that might be the root cause?
