    Hi there,

I know there have been loads and loads of posts about this (believe me, I have searched and read most), but I am still unsure/puzzled.

I am trying to play bluray rips (using the bluray handler) which contain TrueHD on my 5.1/DTS (no HD audio) amp via spdif (no bitstreaming).

    I have SAF5 installed.

I have read about registering new decoders, changing codecs, etc...

Can anyone summarise/simply put what needs to be done (without breaking any other playback/support) to allow me to achieve playback of my blurays (which also contain 5.1) on my old non HD amp.

I have attached a screen capture of graphstudio... notice the missing audio!

    Thanks,

    J.:D

SPDIF will only carry stereo or DD/DTS so TrueHD gets a little messy

DTS-HD is nice and simple in that it is always contains a DTS core so if you play a disc with a DTS-HD it will just output the DTS core.

TrueHD however does not necessarily have a DD core track (what should happen is that the TrueHD and DD shoudl be separate tracks) What does happen however in some audio tracks is that a DD track has been interlaced into the TrueHD track (so you actually have two tracks which appear as one). The theory here is that if your player does not know what to do with the TrueHD track it will only see the standard DD track and ignore the other bit)

So to answer your question, it depends on what type of TrueHD the disc has. If it has this interlaced DD track then I think this should work as normal. If it only contains a TrueHD track (which will have to have been an rip with some stuff removed as it must have one of the mandatory codecs) then you need to do something to decode the output and then re-encode to DD

Using a recent FFDShow tryout you will need to set the options to decode TrueHD and then set the options to encode audio to DD

    Hi there,

Thanks for responding - and explaining that (I never knew about the "backward" compatibility).

So in theory (depending on the format) I should be able to passthru the TrueHD and my receiver will trying and pay the none HD part of the track.

I have tried enabling TrueHD passthru, disabling passhtru, different codecs, etc, but I can not get the source to connect to an audio decoder :(

Is it a problem with the MPEG splitter?

This is the output from MediaInfo (for the m2ts file):
