I use TVSeries to watch my videos. I got some .avi episodes that each had a matching .srt file.

The SubTitles work fine (actually, they default to being on), but I'm wondering ... how do I temporarily turn them off?

I followed Goose's Tutorial to setup the video stuff. So, I'm pretty sure I am using an Internal MP player and I think it's VSFilter handing the SubTitles?

On my MCE remote, I press the Blue button at the bottom to cycle through the different Aspect Ratios. After if figure out how to control the SubTitles, it would be great if I could use one of the lower colored buttons to toggle them on/off. Defaulting to off might be better also.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT:

It's fixed now.

I had missed some DirectVobSub settings. Just follow Goose's PDF guide closely and it will work.

SubTitles now default to off, and the yellow button toggles them on/off.

    Hi.
Nice to see you got it sorted out.

Just a heads up: When you update MP from 1.0 to 1.1 (or anyting post 1.1 beta), I don't think you should follow Goose's guide. One of the reason is that we now have built in sub-engine in MP (from MPC-HC), which even allows DXVA (GPU acceleration -> offloads CPU) to work.

Oh, really? Well thanks, that's good to know.

I tell you what ... back in 2008 (after the fall of Meedio) I had had enough. I had heard of MP so I thought I would give it a try. I knew nothing. But with your excellent install docs, the active forums, Goose's codec setup PDF, and the StreamedMP pack (Theme, TV Series, and Moving Pictures) ... I had a fully functioning, remote controlled, XP based HTPC (sending DD5.1 sound via SPDIF to my amp.) in a fraction of the time it took me to get a Meedio system running (and it did a lot more). Plus, it looked great on the plasma.

In fact my brother saw it and had to have it. Referencing my notes, I took my old Pentium4, loaded XP, and setup one for him. As I look back at my notes, I see it was MP v1.0.2 (stable) on his box.

I still feel like I'm only scratching the surface. But I do these installs and they just work. I tinker a bit but mostly I just load media on them and they "just play" everything we throw at them.

The change you refer to for v1.1 or higher sounds major. I'm glad to hear v1.x is still going strong. It just keeps getting better. You MP developers are the best around.

So, it sounds like v1.1 has better internal codec/player support. Did you bypass the need for FFDShow? Is there a new (easy to follow) setup doc or forum posting you can point me to (or is it all in the main install docs now) that gets me to the same place as mentioned above? This summer I plan to build my first MP dual-core box.

I think a new MediaPortal 1.1 "Get-you-going"-guide would be nice, as much has changed.
For the moment, I think daMaster's guide is the best to get you going w/1.1 -> https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/newcomers-forum-240/mediaportal-install-guide-49685/
Codec setup has changed somewhat and is dependent on OS (Win7 is even less hassle due to good MS-DTV codecs).

In general, a clean install of MP w/Win7:
    - MP 1.1 RC1 or newer (coming soon...)
    - Haali mediaSPlitter
    - StreamedMP w/MovingPictures + MP TV-series
    - Online Vids (YouTube)
    - Additional plugins and skins
    That is about it.

:D for your kind (and motivational) words!
(Btw, also played around w/MeediOS once, but ended up confused and frustrated, thus gave it up. Have to admit that same can happen w/MP, but not to same degree - and mainly because I just have to fiddle with it - even if it is not broken :D)

And if you do the upgrade, the way to disable your subtitles is pressing the Yellow button on your remote.
