I'm trying to diagnose a problem whereby my client PC will only show TV pictures when the firewall is turned off (on the client). Entries in the firewall config look fine. Can somebody tell me the ports used for the stream?

I should have mentioned - the client is W7 as is the server. Just configured an XP client - and no (firewall) problems

    Hi,
As you stated that xp doesn't have problems it means that server side firewall is configured correctly.
You can check the port and ip address used by tv server for streaming by opening tv server configuration window and clicking on "tv servers" entry and on right hand side you will see details.
On client side make sure that mediaportal.exe is allowed in windows firewall.
I think what happened is that when you connect to network in windows7 you are asked if it is a public network or home network and you could click on public network but this is just a guess.

Vecnar - Your right the server side is configured ok. I only had to disable the client side FW to make it work. Putting a rule in for "MediaPortal" on inbound traffic on both "Private" and "Public" didn't work and configuring a rule based on port number doesn't work either because it changes with each connection. I worked this out by putting FW logging on.
I've ended up putting a rule in that allows all UDP ports for a specific address (the TVServer machine). This works but I still don't understand why a standard "progarm" based rule would not work.

It is strange that allowing program doesn't work as when you allow a program to windows firewall it creates 2 inbound rules, 1 to allow all udp ports to specific application and second with all tcp ports to application but strangely it doesn't create any outbound rules.
Could you verify that those rules exist.
In your case the outbound rule was required in order for client to work. As i don't have client running windows7 i can't verify what i am suggesting. Create outbound rule for mediaportal.exe for all tcp and all udp ports for and see if it works.
Or you may leave as it is now as it is working.
