I didn't know where to fit it and this is my best guess, it's in development but doesn't belong in any of the other development fora :D

Will the new TV Engine be available for running on a 2K3 server machine? Because the whole architecture is steadily going towards a server and a playback machine, it might be usefull to actually be able to run it on server hardware and server software.

I really can't say for sure, but a service is a service. I would assume it will work just fine on 2k3 server. Maybe Frodo should give us an UPDATE on the new TV Engine (hint.. hint)

You want an update? Ok: No change. :D

Frodo has recently been on holiday, ASiDiE...

About the Server2003 question: We can say that for sure when it's done, I guess... But as the engine doesn't rely on SBE anymore, chances are not bad.

    For Hardware server:
many servers have pci-x slot instead of normal pci and some TV cards doesnt work
Example: Impossible to install a pvr500 mce or a Technotrend Budget C-1500 in my Proliant ML350 G2 but pvr150 or Technisat Cablestar are ok.

    For W2k3 server:
the main problem are TV card drivers
they are design for XP and not for W2k3 it's not totally compatible. :(

And the price of the server license might be another point.
Not if you are registered as a Microsoft "developer" and have an Action Pack subscription ;)

Can't remember which version, but MP installed and ran fine on Win2K3 Small Business Edition when i gave it a go a while back. My Nebula DigiTV installed just fine. Ended up passing the machine on to my parents (with XP instead of Win2K3 i hasten to add) it was too noisy as an HTPC/server.

My Trinloc USB DAB adapter refused to install correctly on Win2K3 though, which was a shame.

If drivers / PCI-X are the only problem then it's not something MediaPortal can address ;) I'm sure there are TV-Cards that can fit on server boards and in that case you could run a centralised TV server that could broadcast several stations.

You could also use a desktop computers that you assign the task of running server OS as I am at the moment.

as long as you have drivers for your TV-Cards.

i have been testing TV-Server on Windows SBS 2003 SP2 with floppydtv dvb-s and Skystar 2.
    it works!
