TV GUIDE like interface? (1 Viewer)

This is what i had envisioned for my htpc. I have been using my server for several reaons, and watch movies and tv shows from it.
But after doing some research and came to this site, i thought i would give media portal a shot.

ideally, what i would want is something close to tv guide from direct tv. For example, you can make your own channels. So you could make a movie channel, which took a movie folder, shuffled the movies and played them on the "Channel"

it would also be cool if you could do this with netflix, and randomize the top 100 movies, or the movies in your queue, and basically make a "netflix" channel. Or a "HBOGO" channel.

and you could also make a CNN channel, or a fox news channel, or any of the other free streams. Of course this is so specific, I Couldnt imagine this being out there. But a lot of the time, I just dont know what I want to watch, so if I can see some "Channels" with things listed I think it would be great. Not to mention help me replace my satellite dish.

I have seen some netflix beta apps that I will give a shot. But I am new here and am looking forward to seeing what mediaportal can do!

Hi and welcome,

You can define playlists for videos, music, etc. but not custom channels as you describe in the TV guide. The customisable TV guide shows only TV channels, regardless of type, i.e. cable, terrestrial, etc.
