In MyTV, there is an option on the main screen called "TV On" or "TV Off." This button toggles live/timeshifted television, which means that while watching anything else it is in the "off" position. For instance, if I load a recorded television show, it still says "TV Off." The confusion I'd like to see avoided is if somebody had a recorded event coming up, saw that television was off, and assumed the recording would be missed.

Like many things within MediaPortal, the label makes perfect sense once (as a user) you come to understand the vernacular. However, for a new or casual user (i.e. my roommates, significant others, etc) it's not very intuitive.

My solution is to rename this button to "TV Active" and "TV Inactive." I looked, but couldn't find anywhere to change this locally, so hopefully somebody agrees with me...

This button does not make sense anyway IMHO. I don't get why anyone would want to disable TV while being in the MyTV section. TV should always be active when the user is inMyTV (I know you can configure it to automatically switch on when entering that section) and could only be switched off by press "stop" on ones remote (outside MyTV.

If MP is recording a show, it should automatically switch to the channel the show is being recorded on and display EPG when entering MyTV.

That's just my opinion but maybe anyone agrees.

BTW: Thy it's described above is the way MCE does it. Much more intuitive.

Regards,
Simon

The TV on button is very useful for the (now thankfully very rare) times when the TV card fails. Usually toggling this button can re-init the card and bring the system back to life.

If you want to change it, the value should be in the strings xml file for the language of your choice.
If you want to remove it alltogether it's just a matter of deleting it's entry from the MyTv xml file. Since a while ago, it's not even necessary to change all the other buttons to fill the hole, they should just move up automatically.
Make sure to delete the "ON" icon as well.

I don't mind TV being "off" when watching a movie or recorded program. That's why it makes more sense that the label doesn't mean television is "off," when what it really means is that another activity is playing video.

If MP is recording a show, it should automatically switch to the channel the show is being recorded on and display EPG when entering MyTV.
What if you have multiple tuners and only one is recording? Then does it jump to the last active channel or the one being recorded?

Thanks! I figured it was handled by XML, but I didn't know where to look.

    Could rename it to,

    Live TV on
    Live TV off

    or

    TV viewing on
    TV viewing off

I'm sure there will be a lot of derivative's of this one, as everyone has there own lingual translation of what sounds correct to themselves.
