Synopsis::

Bright areas are too bright & washed out.

I use ffdshow processing set up according to the guide at htpcnews.com & avi's look great, but with tv, the white areas are too bright & washed out. Dark areas are fine, perhaps a little too dark, so I assume this has something to do with the gamma settings. I've used the slider while viewing, but it didn't help.
Since avi's are okay & the sat box looks fine when run directly to my tv, I think this has something to do with the Hauppauge setup. Is there anywhere the gamma can be adjusted? I have a satellite stb running s-video into the hauppauge card & an hdmi cable with 2 hdmi-to-dvi adapters running to my Hitachi PJ-TX100 projector on a 120" screen.

Be aware that there are separate gamma settings for your desktop verse the video overlay, Both can be adjusted from the nVidia control panel, just be sure you are using the right one.

or would it be worth changing the settings on your TV?
