Synopsis::

I'm very impressed with MediaPortal, and it looks like the answer for my MediaCentre - if ony I can get the TV display working.

I wasn't sure if this counted as an install, software or hardware problem, so apologies if I've posted in the wrong place.

This is the first time I've used MediaPortal. I installed and scanned channels without any significant problems. My problem is with the TV display. The TV picture "flickers" slowly. I.e the pciture appears and is then replaced by a black rectangle, followed by the picture again, then the black, and so on. The repeat cycle is fairly slow, and constantly varies, but neither picture nor black are there for more than a second. The sound is fine.

This happens in all of the standard TV window, TV fullscreen and the TV picture icon. The repeat cycle tends to be faster in full screen.

When I close My TV, the black rectangle persists and the ony way I've been able to get rid of it is by closing MediaPortal down.

I have tried uninstalling, deleting the MediaPortal folder, and reinstalling, but the problem persists.

Any ideas what might be wrong or what else I might try?

Thanks

After doing a full system reinistall, TV stopped working all together - which actually turned out to be a good thing because it gave me an error number in the log file that I could search the forums for. Although this brought up a number of threads that didn't seem to have the same symptoms, after browsing a few it became clear that they pretty much all were using the Via/s3g Unichrome Pro Igp (64 MB) graphics chipset.

A couple of the threads picked up on this, saying it didn't support Directx 9. A little more research and it seems it supports Directx 7 but not 9.

So, I got myself a graphics card, and it now all works wonderfully. It's now very usable - important due to WAF - and ready to go live.

As my aim is to build an HTPC as cheaply as possible, I chose a cheap Asus graphics card (had to be AGP as I don't have any PCIe slots) using the Nvidia 6200 chip set. I know it won't support HD, but that doesn't matter to me at this time. This is not my primary unit, and only runs a 17" widescreen monitor for its display.

I hope this is useful for someone. Perhaps we could create a central list of graphics chip sets that don't work.

Anyway, thanks to you MediaProtal developer chappies. Great stuff - way better then GB-PVR, and way cheaper than MCE.
