TV recording question/problem (1 Viewer)

Hi,

I seem to have everything working apart from the TV-recording. What happens is that when I try to record some things go wrong:

* the program I tried to record does appear in the index but there's no actual recording in the specified hard drive folder.
* all recordings should go to "my recordings" but whenever I check, a subfolder has been created called card1 which may well be what should happen but as said before, no recording are actualy kept there or anywhere else for that matter.

I'm using mp 0.2.0.0 with the patch.

What am I doing wrong. Thanks a lot

The sub folders are where the time shift information is kept.
If you are simply pressing "record" then what happens is the DVRMS file is created, but it's tiny. MP then references all the timeshift material.
If you try to play the video with another program then it will not play.

If that is not what's wrong with yours, you'll need to give some more information, like how are you recording.

Also, have you configured where your recordings are going using the TV card configuration? Also, past your MP log file. To make sure only the essentials are in there, close MP, Start MP, go to TV, press Record, then stop recording then try to play the recording. Exit MP then paste the log file.

If all else fails, the support template is your friend so we get all the relevant information

Are you able to see your recorded programs?
card(x) is used by your card for timeshifting .
The temporary recorded files have the .sbe extension before they are copied to a .dvrms file.
.sbe file are hidden files by default
to see them, open a browsing window, go to Tools ->directory options
go to the second tab "display" , and check the "display hidden files" option .
Note that i'm not sure about the real menu labels in english or another language , cause i'm using a french version.
Then you'll be able to see the recorded sbe files.
Just let us know if you can play a recorded show within MP , after it has been recorded

I tried to record a couple of minutes using "record now" and got the following result.:

* unable to playback although index lists the recording.
* no "sbe" files anywhere.
* an entry is also made in the "planner" telling me that the recording was supposed to last 3 hours !?!

I'm not sure what log to send but going through all of them I found something interesting/worrying in the error log so I'm pasting that for starters:

The other thing I don't understand is why I don't see a tv picture after I stop the recording, the screen stays black/no sound.

That's weird, i have the exact same problem now with my system.
I used Mediaportal for a month or so with a DX8.1 videocard and this weekend i changed it for a Ati 9550 card (9.x compatible) and reinstalled the whole system.

I now have the exact same problem.. If i manually record a show and stop it, it is showed in the "Recording" section, but it doesn't play.
If i go back to My TV then, i even get no TV. I have to restart MP and then the TV works again, but somehow recordings dont work... weird stuff.
Tried several codex (MPV, Nvidia), but same problem..

Hello again,

Glad to hear I'm not the only one but sorry to see you're struggling too. A problem shared is a problem two people have, I suppose.
I've physically and software-wise reinstalled my Tuner card (hauppage 150mce) but the problem's still there.

I tried to record this morning using "record now". This didn't work so I checked the log and found 4 separate files called "error", "media portal", "recorder" and "vrm9".

I'll add them hoping that someone can make sense of it and point me in the right direction. I'm no expert unfortunately but it seems to be going pear-shaped at a fairly early stage ( from what I could tell it says thing like "recording: false" when in the tv card setup screen it says true for both viewing and recording.

Also I can only watch tv when I disable the DX9 exlusive mode but this mode seems to be forced on by the recorder.....

One more thing I forgot to mention is that during the initial setup I was unable to autoscan for TV-channels whereas there was no problem finding channels in the general settings menu.

Update:
I fixed this problem by reinstalling MP completely and test with basic settings.
The problem was the default folder where the hauppage card writes it's recording. I changed it to another folder and after that, i got the same problem again.
If you use the default map "my documents/my recordings"(or something), it works again.

What folder do you use for the hauppage card to write the recording/timeshift file?

Hi,

I've tried changing the folder and what happens is that no matter what folder I use/create, a subfolder called "card1" is created (this is the friendly name as it is shown in the setup) but nothing's in there.

By the way, what do you mean by basic settings and exactly what problem(s) were you able to fix by reinstalling MP (do you also have to remove register-keys)?

I did no registry hacks or something.
I just deleted MP from the hdd and did a plain install again with the basic things like configurating the tv-cards and channels and nvidia codex and that worked for me (with the standard directory for the recording). After that i start configurate the rest of the settings like start-up behaviour and plugins en webepg

I'm almost too embarrased to say but I will anyway: it was my own fault. While collecting all the data again to have my problem dealt with, I noticed that I did not have SP2 installed. After doing so, everything is now running smoothly.
