About recording TV, an acquaintance has a standalone DVR (Panasonic) and says she does not have to buffer the start and end times of shows. She used to buffer but now says she simply clicks on the show in the EPG. Does the latest version do that? That would be the Holy Grail.

Can you explain in MP terms what you mean by buffer? I do not quite get what the exact steps are you like to follow and what you would like the result to be.

My guess is that vur refers to the pre record and post record. If there is a signal included in the TV stream that could be used to determine the exact start and end time of recordings. There is no such feature in MP and I know of no plans to add it.

Yes, by BUFFER I meant pre and post time periods .

Further to the broadcasters including start and end signals, I have just found that here in Australia our Free To Air DTV broadcasters have recently enhanced things by what they call Freeview. Freeview is a protocol which includes those signals. My friend's recorder complies with Freeview, hence her convenient recordings.

I will request this enhancement. It would be a further feather in the cap of MP.

Lot of broadcasters aren't interested in sending the show start / stop events in DVB stream purely since it would be causing less advertisement to be seem by the watchers. This is the major reason why MP has no support at least for now (it wouldn't benefit the developers itself that much :)). We are more than glad to receive a patch that adds such feature (for 1.3.0).

It used to be known as PDF (programme delivery control) and still seems to exist on UK TV as my dad's PVR (humax) does this.
