PLEASE: Anyone there? Everyone else gets replys, not me! Did I do something wrong or totaly stupid? Do I need to donate first or what?

Other data: This is a new build of XP. I installed IIS, NET framework 3.5, SQL2005 Server Developer Edition , MS VS 2008, for program and web development prior to installing MediaPortal. I have not used any of the SQL installation at this time other than:
I checked the SQL set up at least per your manual for TV-Server (Set up Local and remote connections - use Tcip and Pipes - in Surface area Configuration, Database Engine Remote Connections; Verified it is running and autostart on boot. )
    The dvbfix has been applied.
I am trying to set up to run a single seat on one PC.

The first step per the instructions is to run TV-Server Configuration. I did so and got the first screen as expected - I entered password 'MediaPortal' and then pressed [Enter]
    Got the following message
    Connection failed!
A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occured during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - no process is on the other iend of the pipe.)
Sometimes when I press Test, I get another message :
Test failed: Login failed for user 'sa'. the user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server Connection

Also, when I put MediaPortal in debug mode and select TV afte a while it crashes even if I do nothing
That debug info is attached also

    Any suggestions:

    Thanks
    Dennis

OK, I spent 2 days reading wicki, reading SQL etc. Solved it this way:
    Uninstalled MediaPortal and TV-Server
Uninstalled every SQL application on my machine (SQL Express, SQL 2005 Developers edition)
Reinstalled SQL 2005 Express and selected the following non-default settings:
Selected Mixed Mode Authentication: used a password I selected.
After installation: used surface area configuration to allow remote connections both TCP/IP and Named Pipes
    Reinstalled MediaPortal for single seat.
The SQL issue is now resolved - TV-Setup gets all the way thru and I see my dual tuner
However - new problems which I will open a new stream and perhaps beg for some help. Boy this is frustrating.

I just had the same issue and you solution worked so thanks a heap! didnt have to search for too long either!

media portal wouldn't install MS SQL 2005. so i had to install it manually. Anyway I had the same error messages and followed your method and it worked so i can get my TV server running and see my tuner cards. I do have a new issue im not sure its related though. I scanned channels found them. but when i try and start my tv it says "can not start time shifting no signal"

I can got power cinema 5 to work and got a couple of channels but it purmp!

MediaPortal has a lot of 'features' that require very specific configurations of SQL and other system features and a person at the wheel with some experience. It will be a much better product when the installation package can handle more of the unusual and unexpected different configurations of various machines and intalled on a PC run by a dummy like me. It probably installs OK on a machine run by Joe the Plumber who never heard or ASP.NET or SQL or C++ or Visual Studio and has none of that on the machine. But - got to give the programmers a hand - it is pretty great when it works ... For now, I have taken it all down and waiting for Digital TV and I have to buy a HD TV card as my old analog is barley supported by MediaPortal and NOT supported by any of the other Tivo applications. Good luck with your new problem - probabably should start a new post to get help on that one.
