    Hi all

This might seem like a weird question: is it possible to ask the TV Server to ignore the lock status and/or signal strength and quality that my tuner card is presenting?

Background: I have a 6 in 1 tuner card (2xhybrid DVB-T/Analog/FM + 2xDVB-S). The hybrid tuners both work perfectly, reporting either 45% or 80% signal strength (depending on transponder) and 100% quality. Picture and audio are pristine. The satellite tuners on the other hand are *very* temperamental. If signal is locked they *always* report 54% signal quality. Signal strength can vary between ~40% to ~80%. On some transponders I get perfect stutter-free playback, but on others I either can't tune at all or I get signal dropouts which cause severe audio and video stuttering. Now ordinarily I would immediately think that there must be a problem with the dish/LNB alignment or cabling system, however a cheap STB connected to the same cables gets 100% signal quality with no dropouts whatsoever. On top of that I recently bought new dual output LNBs and checked the focus of the dish when I installed them (the dropouts occurred well before I did this so it is not the new LNBs). After *months* of careful investigation (too many checks to list here) I believe the only reasonable explanation for the problems are that I've somehow managed to damage the satellite tuners. What I can't explain is that some transponders still "work" perfectly (playback is stutter-free with 65% strength and 54% quality). The issue doesn't appear to be frequency or polarity related. For example I can tune transponders at 12456H and 12670H perfectly, however 12483H on the same satellite is unwatchable for the stutter. 12648V (also on the same satellite) can't even be tuned...

If my tuner card really is damaged then I will have no choice but to buy a new one, however if there is even the smallest chance that it is mis-reporting signal lock and statistics then I'd like to try and work around it. Note that I am a developer so I am not afraid of building my own version of MediaPortal with the signal lock checks hacked out. I'm more interested to know whether it is technically possible. In other words, can MediaPortal be forced to try and build a graph from the output of the tuner card even though the tuner card says it is not locked?

It looks like I have the same problem like you're describing. If i go to 'manual control' in Tv config, i can see that both the signal level and quality are changing all the time. When this happens the tuner goes from 'Locked: yes' to 'Locket: no'. The result is heavy stuttering.

Did you find a solution for this?

PS: Using FireDTV-Viewer the signal quality is 100% and there is no stuttering...

    Hi Kakskiv

In the end I bought a new TV card. It solved my problems straight away so I think I was correct to think that I had damaged the original card. I still can't explain the random transponders that worked, however I haven't got any more time to mess around with it.

Your situation sounds slightly different to mine because in my case the same thing happened in all the other TV programs that I tried (eg. DVB Dream, ProgDVB etc.), however for you there is perfect playback in FireDTV-Viewer. Do you use a CAM, motor or DiSEqC? Perhaps MediaPortal has trouble controlling these properly for your setup.

As you can see nobody has responded to my original question about the feasibility of ignoring the lock status. At the time I didn't investigate the possibilities in the code, however I am currently working on a patch for another issue with the new tuner. From that experience I can tell you it would probably be possible to try and ignore the lock status, however there is no guarantee that it would help...

i solved my problem yesterday. The reason for my problem was wrong frequency. MePo updated the channel when it was found at another frequency even if there was bad signal at that frequency. I solved the problem by reducing every channel that stuttered by 1 MHz.

But thanks for a reply! :)
