Sometimes when im watching live tv it will stop, go back and play from earlier in the episode, or when i go to change to a different channel it will play like a 30 second clip over and over again and wont change the channel, so i have to end task on mp and then stop the tvservice and delete the ts.buffer files then restart everything and it works.

Hi hermy65

I may be wrong but I believe .ts is the television stream as broadcast. So it is normally contains MPEG2 for standard definition DVB plus additional info where broadcast such as subtitles, alternative audio channels, MHEG-5 info and possibly more.

If you record as MPEG you will get the MPEG part but lose the additional information as the format does not hold it. On the plus side MPEG is more standard if you wish to play it in other applications or burn to disc. I think you need an application to convert .ts to MPEG.

Again, I may be wrong, but I think for TV Server the filter (new and old) is used to read both .ts and MPEG files, .ts being a superset of MPEG.

You shoud be careful. There is an issue in mantis (0001099) which describes that the mpges TVServer3 creates are corrupt.

I did have issues when I first built my HTPC in April 2007 using TV3 and saving files as MPEG. The files should have been around 2Gb but were only @ 300Mb. They contained audio but only the odd frame of picture here and there. This obviously did not go down well with the family. I then switched to .ts and have had no problems so far with it.

This was a known problem at the time and may be the one grubi is referring to (I checked Matis but was unable to find 001099, probably the view I was seeing).

ok, my question now is, do i need to do anything to start recording in ts with the new filter? I use analog tv at the moment.
Can you give me any tips for getting the best picture quality i possibly can?
