Hi all,

Had this happen last night. Watching recorded TV suddenly went all choppy and was unwatchable. Also couldnt launch movies in moving pictures - sound but no video.

At the same time opened TV Series and it showed no data and looked like it was scanning for shows.

Was able to play video etc outside of MP.

Looked into it further this morning and found that TV Series is constantly trying to download data from tvdb but as the site is down it is failing. Uninstalled tvseries and all other MP functions are working correctly again. Tried a reinstall of tvseries but it is failing on retriving data due to the tvdb still being down.

question. should tvseries scrapping take down MP when it cant contact the tvdb or is there a way to have it stop trying once it hits a failure and try again in 12 hours or something like that? Are there any other sources for this data?

I appreciate everything that both the dev's here and the guys at tvdb do so please dont take this as a complaint :)

There are 3 options in TV series you can disable.

    • Enable local online scan when starting MediaPortal

    • Automatically download updated data from the TVDB.com every .....

    • Watch my impot folder for changes automatically

Having all of these disabled means TVseries will not scan your hard drive and the TVDB.com for updates or new data.
You have to run a manual import from the TVSeries sub menu in MediaPortal to force an update.

Ditto for me, it's happened twice recently. The first time I thought it was a problem with my Mediaportal install so I ended up wiping it and starting again, it then worked (thetvdb must have come back up in the mean time!).

It's started again last night and continues now (according to my very frustrated wife). I'm at work at the moment so can't try disabling the above, hopefully that'll sort it though.

Can also confirm this - Thetvdb causes massive CPU usage!

Have disabled all automatic update when in GUI - But would like to have the problem solved.

If the TVDB.com goes down and an import starts then it quits after a few attempts of trying to get the Online Mirrors. All of this is done on a background thread so unless you have a single cpu I would expect you not to have an issue.

Does your logs indicate that this is where your CPU is being spent?

i think there is something wrong with the update process recently, last 4-5 versions of mytvseries... it works, but often lags out mediaportal, even when not playing a video, the whole MP interface becomes jerky. Everytime i chech the logs its always doing or just done the update scan. i have changed my update scan interval to 150 hours for now

Theres no indication in the logs on why mediaportal is running so slow but im going to check it again next time it happens

Also this scan will run while there is video playback as well, i started a request to make an option to not do this via video playback
Issue 511 - mptvseries - Online Update Scan runs during video playback - makes video jerky. - Project Hosting on Google Code

    This is a serious issue!.

Have investigated this issue a bit further.

Latest MPTvseries version generate very high CPU and RAM usage when background scanning - So much, that Movie and TV viewing is impossible, because of lagging and slowdowns.

My CPU moves from 8-20 CPU% to 50-90 % when background scanning.

RAM consumption is normally ~20 MB, but when backgrouns canning starts, this goes to ~300-400 MB usage.

Then it flushes the RAM to 20 Mb again, and starts all over.

    The background scanning never stops.

Have disabled the plugin, because it stalls my whole setup - But will investigate futher and post logs.

Just tried scanning everything from Configuration.

This stalls completely in "Retrieving Episode Thumbnails"........with a ram usage between 220-700MB! CPU usage is 50% (100% on 1 CPU!)

Have attached a log of this issue

Will post a log with similar issue form within GUI

msj33, you have a corrupt database. Delete it and start again and you will find you will have no problems.
