I'm trying to install MediaPortal 0.2.2.0, but I'm getting the message "Unable to install because a newer version of this product is already installed".

I've looked in "Add/Remove programs", and there is indeed an older version installed (which is also still present in my Program Files folder). Unfortunately it's a version from 2004 (1.0.0), which for some reason has a higher version number than the current 0.2.2.0. The installer won't let me install the newer version (with a lower version number).

How can I solve this? Uninstalling version 1.0.0 doesn't work because I don't have the MSI anymore, which is apparently needed to uninstall it.

I have had this issue before... the only thing I could come up with is to remove everything I could find in the registry about mediaportal. After awhile it finally let me install the new version. Please procede at your own risk!

    GOOD LUCK ;)

Pfff... There are literally thousands of them... I'm working on it - if I don't get RSI before I'm finished it may work.

I have removed every occurrence in the registry of MediaPortal and Media Portal, but I'm still getting the same message when trying to install. Any other ideas?

You are mainly looking for the ones under software. The ones where the registry tells the system that you have that app installed. Once you remove that, then I would install.. and then uninstall... so it cleans everything up.. then install agian.

They are all gone, it still doesn't work. I don't know which key MediaPortal uses to detect that it is already installed, but I've done a search for "MediaPortal" and a search for "Media Portal" in my registry (in keys / values / data), and both searches return no matches.

    Had the same prob

    I had the same problem...
Fixed it by following some guide in this forum...
    But can't find the post.
I found it originally by searching with the tekst in the error message that you get when you try to uninstall MP.
I did had to remove some stuff from the registry...

    I hope it helps.

Search the registry in the following locations for anything that relates to Mediaportal:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Installer\Products

If so, delete and retry the install.

None there... Is it possible to download version 1.0.0 anywhere, so I can re-install and then uninstall it?
