unable to open mediaportal (1 Viewer)

I am trying to download mediaportal and it appears to download however when I click on the download and it attempts to open an error message appears telling me "error opening file" and then if I choose ignore it starts to open (lots of green writing which then disappears). I have Windows 7 operating and tuner set for USA HD TV. Can anyone suggest what I need to do?
