Just a random noob question. I have spent the last couple of days getting everthing installed and configured (mediaportal is awesome), and am now at an evaluation stage. I am playing every video format fine, but when I attempt to play the "Pole to Pole" epi of the planet earth series (its an .mkv in 1080p) I get pronounced stuttering at the scene with all the birds. I have since discovered that this clip is commonly used to stress players. I have not been able to ascertain if my hardware should be able to handle it, and since I know next to nothing about pretty much anything a/v related, I can't let go of the nagging suspicion that it is my fault that this video can't play. Here is my setup:
GIGABYTE GA-MA78GPM-DS2H (using the onboard graphics)
AMD Athlon X2 4850e 2.5GHz
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Vista Ultimate x32
HDMI to HDMI connection to TV
This box is not doing anything else besides htpc.
I have mediaportal configured (as of now) per Phil's guide to installing mp on avsforum (MediaPortal Install Guide - AVS Forum). I have also tried it with coreavc. Nothing Different.
So, with this hardware, is the stuttering normal, or should I continue tweaking? I am very happy with what i have, especially considering what I paid for it, so if I have to live with it, no big deal. Everything else looks great.
Thanks very much in advance!
John
