I am using mediaportal and think its great for watching my HD bluray rips and now its great for tv as well as it switches refresh rates (why doesnt media centre do this?!).

Anyway, i've been trying different codecs for watching TV. Have used ffdshow, the vista mpeg2 codec and power dvd 7.3 mpeg codec. Im currently just using the microsoft one as I dont see much between that and power dvd 7 codec and it uses dxva apparently.

I've noticed the new powerdvd9 codecs have this 'truetheatre' upconversion for dvd's. does this feature work when just using the codec alone or do you have to use powerdvd? i would like to try the powerdvd9 mpeg codec out but not sure if it works in mediaportal.

has anybody had any success with this?

I have an ATI HD4850 which is more than capable. Just wodering if its built in to the codec, or if its the application that is doing the upconversion. I ended up trying out the PowerDVD9 MPEG codec and didn't notice any improvement. There are also no extra options in the codec configuration regarding TrueTheatre.

i'm referring to the upscaling functionality of the application, not just the bare minimum for being able to run it. i tried to enable upscaling on a geforce 6600 and there were NO DICE i assure you D:

edit: in order to use powerdvd's upscaling algorithms you need an nvidia video card capable that support this CUDA upscaling business, which means you need a 9xxx or higher, as I said earlier.
