Well most of us use a Remote Control. So it's a bit useless to allow editing.
You could use MPTagThat in Database Mode pointing to your current MP Database. this will update the file and database, so that everything is displayed correctly.

There is one field that should definitely be updated automatically by future MP versions, and that is rating. It's good to have the values synchronized between db and files. In case the database gets corrupted or has to be recreated manually from the scratch, we lose all the ratings submitted from MP using the star-rating system.
(I'm aware of the plugin which updates the rating in files manually but I did not manage to get it working right recently - I pressed the button but nothing happened)

works only in a 1.1 version of MP
it was working for me with 1.0.2

I am wondering... didn't we have a Plugin wich made it possible to start MP with certain Module - e.g. directly start with Tv or...
You can always try, select any window, turn off the Media Portal, change the ID of the selected one to the desired one (plugin) and check.

I don't have a TV card in my HTPC setup, so I really only use plugins that browse and show media files, like MP TV-Series, Moving...
As video playback in MP2 2.5 is buggy, PLEASE add an option for an external video player! I'd LOVE to have VLC back as videoplayer, like in MP1! This works perfectly. You will make a LOT of people VERY happy when you add this option. THANK YOU!
