hi, i just found media portal a week ago and thought i would try it out so loaded it onto my media server machine with the following specs:
latest mediaportal and tv server with klite codec pack on xp pro.
hardware
AMD sempron 3000+ skt939
on an msi mobo with pci exp (not sure 100% of the mobo as its an old hp machine)
2gb ram
60gb ide hd
ATI Ax300SE pcie graphics card (it was just a media server before so no need for anything beefy)
and the wintv nova-t 500 card for uk freeview
it was connecting to my 20inch sony 720p lcd in the bedroom via a dvi to analogue cable.
with that setup i had good results i could watch and record 2 channels at once using the MPV codec and was using the wintv remote (which i couldnt get many buttons working with)
my main problem with this setup was the sound wasnt up to much as it wasnt digital and the picture wasnt as sharp as i needed so text all looked abit soft anf so on. so after reading some guides i used the ffdshow codec to upscale to my tvs native res and tweaked a bunch of settings sharpen the picture.
and it worked great the picture was perfect. only problem now was the cpu was being pushed past its limite and i had a very chopping picture.
so i had a look online and a really good deal on a amd 64x2 3800 which i thought would do the trick. i also picked up a ati HD 2400 Pro with hdmi port. as i thought that would be a way to get better sound and so on.
so i installed everything. the machine runs just fine and is alot more "snappy". only problem is its nerfed my MP
even with the MPV codec its now very choppy watching tv and when i use the hdmi out to my tv i cant get the picture to fill the tv like i once could. nore does it go into standby when its idle.
im not sure why things arnt working alot better than they were as the cpu shouhld just have gave it the extra kick to do the upscalling
but no it cant even run smooth on MPV now :\
also for the life of me i cant figure out how to get the audio to run over the hdmi (yes i installed all the drivers that came with it)
so just to recap i had a pretty good mp machine that i was pretty happy with minus the not so great audio and soft picture.
now that ive upgraded to a better cpu and gfx card nothings working smooth (just mp the machine runs fine)
so the current sepc that im having problems with is:
amd 64x2 3800
2gb ram
60gb hd ide
HD 2400 pro with hdmi port
and the latest mp and tv serv.
i cant think why these changes would have had a negative effect :\ apart from i havent done a clean install but that shouldnt of had too much of an effect i wouldnt of thought.

anyone know why its not filling the screen when at any res? even at the panels native?
