has anyone started on a UPnP server plugin for media portal.
if so what stage are you at and would you like some help developing it.
If not i aim to build a UPnP Server with Xbox 360 support.
i aim to allow live tv and recorded programs. as well as musik and photos.

UPNP-Client?

Why do you want to start a new UPNP-Server project? You can use Twonkey for example.
What we need is a UPNP-Client for Mediaportal to listen the files shared by the UPNP-Server.

i dont want to keep installing more and more software to get what i want. and twonky or tversity or whatever upnp server you come up with will not support live tv. which is what i want for my xbox 360.
looking into it a bit more im also going to consider writing a media center extender interface to support such things as the xbox 360 MCE integration or the linksys mce extender box. this would be awsome

This WOULD be awesome! I think that's one of the reasons why some people are still hanging on to their MCE - because they have no direct connection from the pc to the tv and thus need to use Xbox360 as an extender. I have a couple of friends who are avoiding MediaPortal because of this.

well you should be pleased to know iv nearly gotten it working..

All i need to make it easier is a fully feature rich UPnP client software.
its really annoying using the xbox as a testing method.. it isnt the best bit of software in the world..
im getting there though..
Iv started on getting live tv working. so at moment my xbox sees my favourite channels
BBC One - Live
BBC Two - Live
ITV - Live
Film Four - Live

hopefully by the end of this evening i will be able to watch live tv using the Video tab on the xbox 360 :)
how cool would that be wahoo

Do you think you'ld be able to get the Xbox to stream DivX/Xvid material without transcoding it first?
When using MCE you can't watch DivX/Xvid-material without using a transcoder (which reduces the quality and hogs the CPU). But this is probably due to lack of a codec in the Xbox rather than in MCE.

Btw: Maybe you should consider changing the subject of this thread to something like "XBox360 as extender" (or something). I think more people might see it then :)

the xbox 360 will ONLY play WMV formatted files or streams..
it doesnt neceserally have to reduce the quality.. i have found this also with other solutions on the net.. WMV isnt that bad of a format if you use the right parameters.

I use it to upscale divx videos to 720p and looks absoloutly mint....
so once i have it fully working the quality of video should be more than acceptable :)

Thats Fast.

I am very interested in this, any chance to see some code?
For the UPnP did you use Intel, MS, Platium, roll you own?

Thanks,
patrick

im using the intel one at the moment..
its looking likely i might have to roll my own.. but that wont be such a big deal.. the hardest bit is getting it reliable... the xbox is seeing it just fine most of the time.. but the odd occasion it doesnt and locks up.. hence why i need a UPnP client application.
the source code will most likely be open source. but im a little anal about half done projects and showing people sorry.. as soon as im happy to show someone the end product ill ship source with it..
if i get my hands on a upnp client bit of software or a better piece of hardware there is no reason why this shouldnt be very soon.
even if it is just to show im well on the way with it
