    Hi.

I have pinnacle usb tuner pctv 70e.

On every restart of the htpc it changes it's "instance id" in device manager. So MP detects it and in database in cards table new tuner is added and newly added card has no channels attached and scanned. Previous instance of the tuner is marked as unknown. So i have to set up channels for the tuner after every boot of htpc.

Is this common behavior of Ms windows and can it be prevented somehow.?

    regards,

    edit:
    Okay.

I have a hint for the solution. But it need some testing. I changed USB port for that tuner one or twice in the past and every time
windows has created new devicepath with new instance id. In win registry there are now three of these for this tuner. I removed two of them
which are not valid right now. It seems to work, but i need some tsting to do, before sure.

It probably is not MP issue at all.

If there is more than one device path in win registry then windows can't decide in startup what to choose and then it picks one. If it differs the one in cards table, then new card is added.

    regards.

Not much you can do about it, the nature of usb is plug'n'play, you can set specific drive letters to be used for usb storage devices, that's about it afaik regarding fixed path's\id's.

    Regards

Yep. Thanks. I was just about to report that it did not work. :(

I need to rethink some sort of registry tweaking system if it's possible

As far as usb goes, it should keep its device id as long as it's not unplugged on a live system, you can unplug with the pc powered down, just make sure it's plugged back into exactly the same port before any boot attempt is made.

Forgot to say, the unplugged usb devices ie the extra registry entries, can be seen under device manager, select view and then hidden devices. now everything that has ever been plugged in should show up, and you should be able to remove from there, unless there is a corruption with the files, safe mode is the best thing to use for this.

Thanks. Removing un-used entries from "hidden devices" did the trick. Thank You,

Cannot think of anything bar the usb device is faulty or motherboard (make sure you have usb keyboard enabled in BIOS), see if you have it plugged into a prime usb socket, these are normally 0 and 1, does that make any difference.

    Hi.

I have only ps/2 connected mouse and keyboard, but i tried it, and no luck. I just got tired with that and ripped off that tuner. I must live with one tuner only for a while. I think i'll just buy another pci connected tuner later on. With only one tuner(tt 3200) everything is okay.

    Thanks for trying to help.
