using jpeg for background in mp (1 Viewer)

hi i want to use my own family photos for my mediaportal background, is there an easy way to do this thanks

Easiest way:
1. Convert jpg to png (use paint.net or similar - perhaps even paint will do this)
2. Rename to background.png
3. Copy it to the skins\[skin name]\mediafolder
4. Clear skin cache

This will work for most skins.

The other way:
Modifing xml's
(not gonna bother writing it, as opt. 1 is OK )

one more question
this is probably is a stupid question, but is there any way of adding 10 pics or so and have the background change every minute. sorta like those digital picture frames

Yup, but thats a bit more complex. I'd recommend you to check the XML's of a skin that does this - like Aeon (found in the graveyard).
