Using Radio Freqency (RF) MCE Remote? (1 Viewer)

I've been using the IR remote supplied with my Hauppauge Nova-T card. However I realised I need to go RF as the signal is now being split to other rooms and this thing travels 20m through walls etc. After much searching (firefly, ati n/a in uk) I came across this item on ebay.

I thought I'd ask here in advance before I get one for any tips about integration with MP. Maybe it will just work fine out of the box or will it be able to use this plugin or the x10 driver or...

cheers

Sorry for not replying to this post earlier, it slipped past me ...

If the USB receiver communicates like a normal IR box then it should work, if not then maybe it would work with the X10 support.

I can't say for sure it would work, but if it's "MCE compatible" then I can't see why it wouldn't ... although you might have to use something like Auto-Hotkeys if it just simulates the key presses of the MCE remote...

If I had any money I'd buy one myself just to see how it works and what it's like.

Let me know if you get it.

    Cheers,

OK got one, works via x10, have created new Other X10.xml for it. Initially it suffered from mce remote issue of 0..9,*,#,enter,arrows, ok etc not being remappable as they routed through as keyboard so got doubling up but have worked out how to stop this effect. Will post xml/info when tweaking complete.

I guess this post maybe now becomes irrelevant in this forum? though remote is approved for mce/vista it seems to work via above route so not sure if mce plugin needed for this remote.

Not too impressed by range though (using usb extension cable + changed transmit channel) but may improve with further tweaks.

    cheers

Good to hear it works for you. I'm looking at adding X-10 support to my new plugin/app suite, so there might be something in that for you in the future.

    Thanks for the info.

    Cheers,

Hi, I'm having problems with an RF remote. It is an MCE compatible unit from Gyration model GYR3101US. It has a USB dongle and communicates via RF. It also has IR for up to 3 other devices. I plug the dongle in and it is recognised OK. Most of the standard keys work (Up Dn, L, R, Enter Pwr, Play etc) however keys like My Tv etc don't function. To get these to work I had to tick Use MCE Remote and Use HID Remote in the MP Setup. I'v tried reverting to MP 0.2.2.0 and using the MCE Replacement plugin (as it doesn't work in MP 0.2.3.0 RC1) but I can't get it to Learn any keys. It fails each time. Any ideas what I can do from here ?

I dont think its compatible with MCE replacement plugin, but i'll look into it.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

    cheers,

    Gyration system files

Would it help if I were to provide a list of the system files. When the Gyration dongle
is plugged in, checking the Controlpanel, Hardware, USB Controllers, shows a new device called " HID - Composite Device ". I think this is where the MCE dongle normally shows up as eHome - but not sure as I don't have one. Other hardware also shows up as HID - Compliant Keyboard, HID Compliant Mouse, Human Interface Devices.
The driver for the HID - Composite Device is called usbccgp.sys.
Also in MP, checking the Use MCE Remote doesn't do anything. Checking the General HID box does enable the normal system keys (0-9, Up, Dwn etc) but not any special keys.
I also dwnloaded the HIP sw and ran it. Picking Std Keyboard I could get a response from the Std system keys but nothing else.
    Does this help at all?:D

Hmm, it sounds like this device would need special code written to work with it. I don't think it will be as simple as changing a setting in the existing setup.

You really need a developer with one of these things to try to work it out for you. Unfortunately, I don't have one.

    Sorry,
