Hi, I am trying to configure VLC as the external player for the DVD Player, as I currently have DVD files on the hard drive. How can I pass the directory name over to VLC? What is the parameter? I know %filename% pass over the file name, but I can't find any reference on passing directory name.

Yes, but I need to have the MP control on the primary display and the movie displayed on the secondary display, and I was told that MP can't do that due to overlay issues. I would rather not use an external player if I could :)

I noticed that %filename% is passing over path\video_ts.ifo, so now I just need to find a way to parse the string and remove "\video_ts.ifo" so that vlc can be launched.

lol you just bumped a thread from 2006. :D

and again, why on earth would someone use an external player when MP can do everything you need out of the box?

Yah, it is old, but it is exactly the issue I have. Everything works on my pseudo HTPC, except for this.

My problem is that I do not have a remote, and I do not want to buy one. I have not found an easy way of using my wireless mouse to work with the built in player. Using just the mouse seems to be a weak point for Media Player, or I need to spend the time and figure it out.

    Thanks

    What exactly is the problem?

If you are using an "older" version of MP, then i guess that you will miss the topbar with which you can control the MediaPlayback (Pause/Play/Skip/ect.).
If you install 1.1.0 ALPHA and apply one of teh recent public svn builds (development section), then you will be able to use the topbar (move mouse to top end of the screen)

But you should be aware that MediaPortal was designed to be a HTPC-Solution. And as such it is meant to be used with a remote. Not keyboard or mouse. :)
