error description:
1. enable cd/dvd speed limit in mediaportal config
2. start mediaportal
3. start a DVD
4. playback is completely trashed

As soon as I try to enable cd/dvd speed limit setting, the image gets completely trashed (even if I set the value high). I've also tried changing DVD codec to other than ffdshow, no difference.

    Hi,
    Can't confirm this, works fine here. Maybe your dvd doesn't support lower speed?

    Aha.. Maybe. Will check if I find any specification. It's a Pioneer DVR 106 BK, which I thought supported almost everything.

    Just tested with another drive, Pioneer 111d. Same problem. I also tried setting the DVD speed to the drives default dvd reading speed (16x) - no difference. Playback is very blocky, green and pink stripes and blocks and other weird image noise. Will do a fresh install of xp on another drive and test with a default fresh MediaPortal installation. If it works, then go step by step and try to find the cause of the problems. I think it can have to do with that I want to use ffdshow as video codec. Weird that it all works perfectly until I try to enable the speed limit though..?

    Installed a fresh Windows XP SP2 on a new harddrive.
    Installed motherboard .inf and drivers.
    Installed .NET.
    Installed MediaPortal (default settings).
    Checked CD/DVD speed limit setting.

    Started movie - > really trashed image.

    If I disable the speed limit playback is fine.

    Tested with Pioneer 111D (original firmware) and Pioneer 106D (hacked firmware) DVD-players.

    Anyone else on these players who can check if the speed limit setting works for you?

    Thanks in advance,
    /D

    Hi,
    Did you update everything on windows update?
    You're not running any for om light installation of XP?
    Not using reclock or anything like that?
    & is it the same if you use MPV/MPA?
    Do you set speed limit to only DVD or both?

    I'll test some more with different DVD drives & DVD's to see if anything shows up

    Regards
    Roy

    I did exactly as described in earlier post, nothing more, nothing less (so no windows update done). Updated everything from windows update now, and the image is good even with speed setting! Haven't confirmed the drive actually is running in 2x (my preferred speed is as slow as possible to reduce noise) yet, but at least my system doesn't seem to crap out on MediaPortal anymore! :)

    Have checked the other installation and it was already updated but still not working. Something else must have went corrupt - it's not a MediaPortal problem.

    Thanks alot for help and input!
    /D

    I also have problems when enableing the speed settings. Just did some quick tests with the settings in the attached screenshot. Using a LG GSA-H42N.

    Test with speed settings enabled, NVIDIA codec for DVD:
    -open MediaPortal
    -select DVD to play from DVD drive
    -MediaPortal goes to 99% CPU usage
    -DVD does not start to play
    ->Logfiles in speed_MediaPortalLogs_fault.zip

    Test with speed settings enabled, MPV codec for DVD:
    -open MediaPortal
    -select DVD to play from DVD drive
    -MediaPortal goes to 99% CPU usage
    -DVD starts to play with massive picture problems (sorry, have no screenshot)
    ->Logfiles in speed_MediaPortalLogs_mpv_fault.zip

    Test with speed settings disabled:
    -open MediaPortal
    -select DVD to play from DVD drive
    -DVD starts to play
    ->Logfiles in speed_MediaPortalLogs.zip

    In the logs where speed setting is enabled I see many lines like:

    2007-11-23 18:44:33.406250 [Info.][MPMain]: Testing filter: Video Mixing Renderer 9
    2007-11-23 18:44:33.406250 [Info.][MPMain]: Trying to connect to VMR Input1
    2007-11-23 18:44:33.406250 [Info.][MPMain]: Connection failed: 80040207

    When NVIDIA coded for DVD is enabled it even seems to loop while testing filter and failing.

    I can confirm the same error on my NEC 3500. With the drive speed option checked, I don't even get the drive to play, but uncheck it and it works fine. Works with DriveSpeed though.

    You cannot run both at same time, could that be the problem.
