Ongoing VGA to S-Video/RCA? (1 Viewer)

Hi guys. I recently put together a HTPC from some suggestions made here. A DOA mobo and some ram incompatabilities later, I finaly got it working along with getting it connected to the net, and a way to control it with VNC till I buy a remote.

Now I have a new problem... I can't hook it up to my TV.

The board claims to be built specificly for HTPC purposes toating a Hi Def sound port on the front and HDMI ability.... but yet, there is no way to hook it up to a normal ol tv... lol

Now I bought a VGA to S-Video/Composite cable, but I can't get it to work, and according to the article I read when googleing why, it appears the board has to have a "TV OUT through VGA" feature to make it work... guess mine don't

Now I was builting this machine on the cheap, so I don't want to spend a whole lot more on getting it hooked to the TV.

Whats the cheapest solution I can get that will work? I don't need Hi Def support, I have just a normal old TV, (Not even a flat screen).

Is there any way to solve my remote and TV needs at once? Like a PCI-E All-in-wonder card like they used to sell for AGP slots... vid card with remote, tv capture and other stuff all in one.

To solve the S-Video problem you can get a really old and simply DX9 card. For instance, something based on Radeon 9550. I've just sold mine on Ebay for around 15€, so you should be able to get something similarly cheap.

For remote I would recommend to get a Windows MCE remote + receiver. It's not the absolutely cheapest but it works without any flaws.

Well, I really didn't want to have to buy a video card just for this purpose, or a "really" old one at that... but I couldn't find a cheaper solution.

I picked up a brand new Radeon X1050 for like $35.... considering a VGA 2 Composite converter runs about $60, I guess its worth it... plus it frees the reserved member that was put aside with running onboard video, so I guess its worth it.
