can my mother accept a pci-e video card as compared to a pci only card.my motherdoard is gigabyte ga-8s661fxm-755motherboard intel p4 775 dx55.been lookin at video card to update to.pci or pci-e.am using a nvidia fx5200.cheers i welcome any input.

According to gigabyte this has AGPx8 slot for graphics, these are expensive in comparison to pci-e cards.

Think I would advise, let what you have wear out and then do a complete upgrade.

thanks for the reply[again] paranoid,,i understand,let it break first then upgrade....do u know weather this m/board[as above] will accept a pci-e card.also,im thinking of buying a tv tuner card ,,[leadtek winfast dvt1005 pci digital hd tuner card for $39 on e/bay],,do u have any advice on this card.,,,again,,,THANKS FOR THE INFO ....

You might need to ask your mother first

As PD mentioned, your motherboard will accept AGPx8 video cards. It is not able to take PCI-e graphics cards as it doesn't have any PCI-e slots (see this link for specifications - specifically the 'Expansion Slots' section).

There are some PCI graphics cards around - eg. from Umart in Australia, but I wouldn't know how good they are or whether they are suitable for HD content.

Just to be crystal clear, you need a AGP VIDEO CARD, not pci or pci-e, first is a step technology wise backwards from agp, the other is not on your motherboard as too old.

Any other components ie TV cards can be PCI or USB if these are empty slots available to plug into.
