Video codec selection has no effect (1 Viewer)

TV-Server Version: RC1
MediaPortal Version: RC1

Reproducable here:

1) Clean install.
2) Television settings > Select "DScaler" as MPEG2 Video Codec.
3) DirectShow filter settings > MPV Decoder settings > Move the sliders to ridiculous values.
4) Start MediaPortal, TV.
==> The MPV settings are obviously effective, DScaler is not used.

This is a showstopper for me, because MPV doesn't scale the image correctly over here.
I installed ffdshow codecs, only to find out that this doesn't solve the problem.

Errorlog shows problems regarding the codecs, as expected:

Run filmerit, and just see if it show any errors, see that dscaler installed correctly.

MPV merit has been lowered to Normal levels, so now should not do that (works here).

I have the same issue, I select ffdshow to be used but it uses MPV instead (I get the same ffdshow error message as you in the log).
Clean install, no problems in other viewers.

I run Filmerit and got the following File Not Found errors:

    Code:
    c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\mpgmux.ax
    c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\mpegaudio.dll
    c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\mpegvideo.dll
    c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\mptswriter.ax
    c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\mpts.ax
    c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\mpreader.ax
    c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\tsfilesource.ax
    c:\program files\team mediaportal\mediaportal\wintvcapwriter.ax

Will try to remove those filters somehow and reinstall MP.

Removed all affected filters and did a remove / reinstall of Mediaportal. The errors reappeared in Filmerit, same file-not-found problems as before. I guess the files don't get deployed correctly, but this wouldn't explain why ffdshow still doesn't work. ffdshow shows up all okay in filmerit, but won't be loaded in MP.

    Hi,
Usually mpeg2 it's disabled(which is good since so many other decoders are around) in ffdshow decoder options & therefore not working, MPV should be much better to use anyway.

    Regards

I downloaded and installed Dscaler codec seperately, and it works now. I'd use MPV, but i'm having ratio problems with this one. Dscaler works perfect when set to "Normal" ratio, MPV does not (black bars on top and bottom, ratio does not fit automatically). Furthermore, MPV causes the screen to flicker on fast sequences (stuttering pictures) and deinterlacing doesnt work, regardless of which deinterlacing setting I choose. Should I file this as seperate problem?

We only provide the codec, not maintain it, could be a HW\driver issue causing this, just don't know, as long as dscaler works for you fine..

Remember, none of the free mpeg2 decoders are as good as the commercial offerings.

I second PD's comment. If you want the best quality, either use Vista which provides a state of the art decoder, or buy a commercial decoder.
