Why horizontal blurred lines appear when playing avi and mkv video's with Media Portal internal player?
(see example: screen.jpg)
If i open the same video's with Windows Media Player 11 or Classic, this problem disappear.
So i assume that would be a problem with MediaPortal configuration, right?
I have notice that changing the MediaPortal render engine from EVR to VRM9 this problem won't occur, but now the skin in use it's all messed up.
I have also notice that the horizontal blurred lines only appear with MediaPortal in fullscreen mode. If i change the MediaPortal to Window Mode the playback of the video is good and with no errors.

Anyone experience the same error?
Can someone help me?

Thanks!

It's called video tearing. It's usually because of mismatched screen refresh rate to the video you are playing, so what you see there is the half of the current frame, and the other half of the previous frame.

The only way I could get rid of this entirely was to use EVR mode. What skin are you using for it to be messed up? I use EVR with no problems at all.

If EVR is not an option, try setting your screen refresh rate to match that of your TV signal. 50hz in Europe for instance.

In Windows Vista Ultimate:
– using EVR mode = skin StreamedMP ok but with video tearing.
– using VMR9 mode = skin StreamedMP messed up but video playback ok

60hz is the single option in my system display properties.
Is possible to change it to 50hz?
Why video tearing only appear in MediaPortal and don't in Windows Media Player?

Thanks!

You can force a refresh rate using programs like powerstrip, but that doesn't mean your TV necessary supports it though. I found that EVR was best with me not the other way around like you have.

Not sure why mediaportal only has the tearing. But for instance MPC-HC I can get to tear by turning an option off called lock back buffer, so perhaps windows media player is doing something similar.

Finally I’ve no more video tearing in Mediportal using internal video player.
I was using Vista Classic Theme and changed to Vista Aero Theme.
I think that the video tearing issue in Mediaportal is somehow related with Aero in Windows Vista.
I've tested avi, rmvb, vob and mkv's (over than 4gb) videos.
:D
Cheers.

EVR requires AERO to be running (as it depeds on it). Otherwise you'll most likely get tearing on video playback.
