    Hi

Firstly just a quick thank you for producing such an awesome application.

I have a windows server 2003 network setup at home with several xp clients accessing movies, photos and music. I use the latest version of MP 1.0.2 and have only the latest FFDshow codec installed.

I have noticed recently that when I access the shared "movie" network drive that it takes a while for all the folder to be returned, but more worringly when I select a movie to be played, MP hangs for 15-20 seconds and then begins to play the audio, and then after another 15-20 seconds the video will appear.

Also, during movie playback if the "Stop" button is pressed on my microsoft MCE remote, then it takes at least 20-25 seconds before MP Responds.

I have been readiing that their is a known problem ( https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/general-support-51/re-slow-browsing-shares-47953/ ) with slow network shares however has anyone else experienced the delay in actually having a movie appear?

Any help would be most appreciated.

    regards

    Ajay

    Hi,
I have seen a similar problem. I have a pretty fast network (over a powerline interface) to my server. Access to the share is fine from Vista, but when running MP things like deleting a file or starting to play it all have a significant delay....

    Andy,

    Thanks for replying...

Access via the network (Windows Explorer) is also lightening fast for me with a 1GB film starting in Media Player in less than a couple of seconds (1GB network !!)

Is there a technical reason why browsing is so slow?? does anyone know of any plans to address this in future releases??

    Thanks again

    Ajay

I'll add a 'me too' here.

Launching a recorded program across the network using VLC/WMP/anything that isn't MP is quick (1-2 secs), while MP takes (what seems) an eternity to start playback.

There's a slight delay (5 seconds?) with mine but that is because my server is UnRaid based and it utilizes energy saving items such as spinning down the hard drives when they aren't in use. The delay I get is because the drive(s) need to spin up before it is ready to stream the media to me. You have a 2003 setup though so I doubt your drives are being spun down...

Can i ask you how big your respective movies folder are?

The reason i ask is that things were alot quicker a while ago, and i wander if the increase in size of my movies folder has anything to do with the slowness??

for your information, my movies folder is 942 gb in size and has around 380 folders

My server contains consists of 6 x 1TB drives with around 3TB's worth being movies (around 500 movies with around 100 of them being full 1080p rips). There is 496 folders total.

Again I'm using UnRaid for my server... it works wonderfully.

The only things I keep in my recordings folders are shows I haven't watched. As soon as I've seen them, they're deleted.

Currently only using 10GB out of 300GB on the server.

Same for me too, and is one of the reasons I haven't been able to use this program as of yet. I've been dealing with SageTV but just don't like the format as much as I do MP.

    I'm running WHS
    Duo-Core 2
    4g Ram
    1gig network
    (6) 1.5tb drives
    Currently at 2.5tb capacity

Most of my collection consists of DVD, some BD and music files.
When I scroll through the movies, its slow but managable. The problem is when I select a movie it can take up to a minute or more for it to load. Once im in the movie everything is ok, playback... sound... all that is just great.

Its just not an option to wait that long to try and start a movie (the kids think its locked up so they start "trying" things)

FYI: SageTV handles the navigation just fine so I don't think its a hardware or configuration problem on the network or the server, it only happens in MP.

Hope to get this sorted out and start using this program!
    Thanks in advance...

i'm also experiencing this. I'm running MP on both XP SP3 and Win7 (dual booted).

Win7 starts playing immediately and the UI is really responsive. XP has sluggish UI and also the slowness in started playback.
Both running same software/plugins and Nvidia driver versions.

Annoyingly Win7 doesn't seem to work when using 2 long HDMI cables (with repeater) but XP does. Lose lose :(
