Hi,
This is my first time on the forums. Firstly I'd like to say I'm extremely impressed with this product and am very greatfull to the guys that have obviously worked so hard on the programme.

Heres my question:

I seem to get skipping videos when playing from an HDD source. When watching an AVI file, it will sometimes either skip to another part of the file or I'll suddenly get a menu popping up asking if I want to change aspect ratio for no reason.

I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, I did do a search but couldnt find anyone with the same problem.

I have no idea how to do that yet. I'll read up on it and come back when I know.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Edit: guess I should have read the "READ THIS" announcement first eh.

Synopsis::

I seem to get skipping videos when playing from an HDD source. When watching an AVI file, it will sometimes either skip to another part of the file or I'll suddenly get a menu popping up asking if I want to change aspect ratio for no reason.

I think I noticed it doing it on a DVD aswell, but I was testing some stuff out at the time so didnt know for sure.

I was watching a DivX file earlier and it did this, and then shut down my external amplifier and I had to reboot to get sound back. Not sure if the amplifier thing was anything to do with Media portal or a seperate issue altogether

Welcome to the forums, Manbearpig! (I like this South Park episode, by the way ;))

Maybe this will help with the video skipping (it's something I once wrote in another thread):

"I had a similar problem once - and after days of testing and browsing these forums, I found out that it was the mouse!

My MediaPortal PC had a mouse with a very sensitive mouse wheel. This wheel sometimes just kind of "moved itself" a little bit, even without anyone touching the mouse. And using the mouse wheel while watching a video/recording in MediaPortal results in a "jump".

Since my HTPC is controlled via a remote control, it doesn't need a mouse - so disconnecting it resolved this problem.
So check if there is a mouse installed on your PC and if the wheel may be the cause.
Hope this helps!"

Thanks for the advice !
It could well be the mouse, I'm using a wireless mouse at the moment thats not that great and keeps freezing and stuff. I'll try removing the batteries from the mouse when watching something tonight and see if it works. Its an erratic rodent at the best of times :x
Believe it or not when I was just typing this the pointer jumped half way across the screen !
Funny that something so simple could be the problem.

Edit: Just tried a video quickly and I see what you mean about the mouse wheel skipping the video. I think this was what was causing the problem... didnt realise the mouse wheel did that

I'll wait and see if it happens again but I think you've solved my problem :p

Thanks again :D
