I've been using MP 0.2.2.0 successfully for nearly 2 years now, mainly for MKV & avi files. I've just built a new HTPC using a Gigabyte 780 Motherboard and AMD 5050e CPU (clean install XP Pro SP3). I used the same codecs as my other system (above) but noticed a slight video stutter on mkv files every 6 or 7 seconds. Avi files are OK.

To test the new version of MP I removed the primary HDD from my original system and fitted a new 1TB drive. Installed MP 1.0.2 and codecs as per suggestions on SAF tutorial and tried the same mkv file. Stuttering still present.

Created a disk image of my original C: & MP 0.2.2.0 and reimaged to the new 1TB HDD. Mkv playback OK. Updated codecs, ATI drivers etc, still played OK. Uninstalled MP 0.2.2.0 and installed 1.0.2, video stutter returned. :(

I've tried CoreAVC, PowerDVD, FFDshow etc but cannot trace the cause of the video stutter. My original system with 0.2.2.0 plays mvk fine, but both systems stutter with 1.0.2

Any suggestions?

... thanks in advance ;)

Try to use reclock. This is the only way I can solve this problem at the moment... Also do not use ffdshow as ac3/dts decoding/passthrough, use MPA instead...

Thanks for the reply ;) I tried using MPA, but this did not help. I had AC3Filter installed, but this didn't work with DTS passthrough enabled either. ffdshow also failed with the DTS option enabled. I did not try reclock having read some comments in the thread linked at the bottom of this reply!

I used the image of my 0.2.2.0 config and updated it to MP 1.0.2 to test and also had a PowerDVD 7 install on that HDD. Setting the audio to PDVD7 worked  ... but when I examined the codec graph it showed AC3Filter as the active codec, not PDVD7 which had been set in the MP configuration  I've just tested two mkv files (one with DTS the other with AC3 Dolby) and they both play without stutter and my optical connection the the AV receiver is OK.

I don't understand why MP 1.0.2 behaves differently with regards to DTS passthrough and I have still to test this on a clean install of XP SP3. The new HTPC is located elsewhere and it will be a while before I can get to it. It uses MP 1.0.1.

I am grateful for the support and for the suggestions in the following thread :-

    ... many thanks all :)

I can only suggest you to try to use reclock. You don't have to use it for resampling, only for vsync correction which seems to be the problem (I suspect it's a problem of the haali renderer, because for AVI mediaportal uses it's own renderer that has no problems).

Thanks robyf :) Mkv files are playing smoothly now but I have yet to do a clean install. If I do and I can't make things work again, I'll give reclock a try ;) I'm experimenting with different skins & plugins for the minute, so it may be a while before I get anywhere :D
