Video Thumbnail Chapter/Scene Selection (1 Viewer)

Would it be too difficult to implement "Scene" selection mode in the video player that uses thumbnails extracted every x amount of seconds throughout the movie? The PS3 has a similar function if anyone is familiar with it, and it is a terrific replacement for DVD chapters for all non-DVD formats that lack them.
